Did Tzipi Livni have sex with Arabs when working for #Mossad?

You can imagine I had me some laughs on account of this story.

A leading Egyptian daily falsely claimed that former foreign minister Tzipi Livni conducted sexual relations with Arab officials during her years as a Mossad agent in an attempt to entrap them, and used what it said was a 2009 interview with The Times of London as ostensible proof.

The article in Al-Masri Al-Youm, an independent and widely read Egyptian daily, was headlined: “Livni: I had sex with Arabs in return for ‘political concessions.’” It featured prominently in the paper’s Saturday print edition and was still leading its website on Sunday afternoon. The article went up on Al-Masry Al-Youm’s website Friday night and was its most widely read story over the weekend. It had garnered 20,000 Facebook shares and 1,800 tweets as of Sunday morning, and was quoted extensively in Egyptian and Arab media.

The overexcited Egyptian readers may not be sated yet with frisson they got imagining whatever they did, so here is another photo of Tsipi for them to peruse:

So go ahead, dear excited readers, peruse. But in moderation, please.
I thought that this could round up the whole story, but then I've stumbled on another article in the same ToI (Times of Israel). And, of course, it shows clearly that ToI are the guilty party, causing the whole uproar in Egypt by publishing that one, titled What the Mossad’s female agents do — and don’t do — for the sake of Israel. The article carries another picture that may be even more exciting to the same group of readers:

Unfortunately, the article's thrust caused me a grave concern. It says, for example:

“We use our femininity because any means is valid,” confirmed Efrat, the most senior female operational commander in the Mossad. “But even if we think that the way to advance the mission is to sleep with [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad’s chief of staff, no one in the Mossad would allow us to do it. Women agents are not used for sexual purposes. We flirt, but the line is drawn at sex.”

It is bad. It is really very, very bad. I am sure that we shall see soon an article full of rage from the Haaretz' own Gideon Levy telling us that the female Mossad agents wouldn't have sex with Arabs because they (the female agents) dehumanize them (the Arabs) and thus don't see... well, you got the drift by now.
Methinks it's time to discuss the dire situation with the wannabe Elders from the Mossad and to tell these young upstarts that their operational manuals should be revised, having in mind the weight of the public opinion in general and Gideon Levy's opinion in particular.

After the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics, Germany cooperated with Black September, the Palestinian terrorist group that orchestrated the deadly attack, the German weekly Der Spiegel revealed Sunday. Following the tragedy in September 1972, Germany tried to establish a relationship with the group’s leaders, hoping that this would dissuade them from carrying out any more attacks in the country, the paper reported.
In this context, the German ambassador to Lebanon, Walter Novak, met with Yusuf Najjar, also known as Abu Yusuf, the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s intelligence arm, which ran Black September. Just a week after the meeting, in April 1973, Najjar and two other PLO operatives were killed by Israel in a reprisal raid in Beirut called Operation Spring of Youth.
At the meeting, attended by other members of Black September, Novak suggested the parties sign a contract that would be “the basis for a new understanding” between Germany and the terrorist organization. To further advance this understanding, a meeting between Abu Yusuf and German foreign minister Walter Scheel was planned in Cairo, but it never took place.
Najjar’s death did not end the Germans’ courtship of the Palestinian group. According to Der Spiegel, high-ranking German officials met with Ali Hassan Salameh, the Black September operations chief who masterminded the Munich massacre (he was assassinated by the Mossad in Beirut in 1979) and with Amin Hindi, another of the organization’s leaders, who later became the Palestinian Authority’s intelligence chief. These meetings were attended by representatives of the Bundespolizei, Germany’s federal police force.
German cooperation with the terrorists was not limited to secret agreements between the parties; it also included expressions of sympathy toward the terrorists. For example, the Munich massacre was called “an act of resistance” in internal German correspondence. This is especially true in the case of the German Foreign Ministry; Novak told Abu Yusuf that Germany empathizes with and can understand the suffering of the Palestinian people, since many Germans live as refugees around the world.

The five Israelis killed in Wednesday’s terror attack are Amir Menashe, 27; Itzik Kolengi, 27; Maor Harush, 26; Elior Priess, 26 and Kochava Shriki, 42, Israel announced Thursday evening.

There is nothing new in this conspiracy idea. Every time a Jew somewhere in the world falls victim to a terrorist attack, the usual crowd comes out with the "discovery" of another Mossad "false flag" operation. The same happened less than 24 hours after the bomb went of in Burgas: the Internet is full of this oldest conspiracy theory: Mossad done it: just browse for "burgas airport false flag mossad" and count the hits.
But even a conspiracy theorist - not the brightest bulb on Earth - usually provides a reason for the Mossad atrocity. This time even the dimmest of the dim were able to do so - with courteous assistance from... an Israeli newspaper. Yes, Haaretz, whose scribe, Amir Oren, hastily produced the following:

There is really no need to read the article, 99.9% of its contents appears in that snapshot. Notice also the deft replacement of a "terrorist act" (or similar) by "Israeli intelligence failure". A certain contribution to the newspapermen's lexicon, for sure.

The Stuxnet computer worm, described by David Sanger in The New York Times last week as an invention by the Bush administration, was actually developed by Mossad, according to Israeli officials speaking with Haaretz journalist Yossi Melman on condition of anonymity:

The Israeli officials actually told me a different version. They said that it was Israeli intelligence that began, a few years earlier, a cyberspace campaign to damage and slow down Iran’s nuclear intentions. And only later they managed to convince the USA to consider a joint operation — which, at the time, was unheard of.

The irony of course is that both U.S. and Israeli officials spent years denying knowledge of who carried out the attacks, which reportedly destroyed thousands of Iran’s centrifuges, ever since it became public in 2010. Now that it’s out, it’s time to claim credit! Of course, if you read Sanger’s account, he certainly doesn’t diminish the expertise of Israel’s spies:

Israel’s Unit 8200, a part of its military, had technical expertise that rivaled the N.S.A.’s, and the Israelis had deep intelligence about operations at Natanz that would be vital to making the cyberattack a success.

Regardless, these Israeli officials say Sanger’s account was too generous to the CIA. Amusingly, one of the officials tries to play it cool, in his remark to Melman:

My Israeli sources understand the sensitivity and the timing of the issue and are not going to be dragged into a battle over taking credit. “We know that it is the presidential election season,” one Israeli added, ”and don’t want to spoil the party for President Obama and his officials, who shared in a twisted and manipulated way some of the behind-the-scenes secrets of the success of cyberwar.”

Translation: We don’t need to tell anyone we’re the ones responsible for Stuxnet, but just so you know, we’re responsible for Stuxnet.Read the full story here.

Wikileaks may have outed 'Mossad agent' causing his death

A report in the Times of London shows that Wikileaks may have exposed Majid Fashi, a 24-year old Iranian 'Mossad agent' who was executed earlier this week for his alleged role in the assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist (Hat Tip: Memeorandum).

The Times of London reported Wednesday that a document from the US Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan, seemingly drew attention to Fashi. The September 2009 US diplomatic document — identified by the code 09BAKU687 — quotes an Iranian source who was a licensed martial arts coach and trainer as describing to his American contacts pressure from the Iranian regime to train soldiers and militiamen in martial arts.
Fashi was reportedly in Baku for an international martial arts competition only days before the US Embassy document was written.
The suggestion is that the Iranian authorities identified Fashi as someone who was in illicit contact with the West on the basis of the document. He was arrested days after the publication of the document by WikiLeaks in December of 2010 and charged with carrying out the January 2010 assassination of nuclear scientist Masoud Ali-Mohammadi on behalf of the Mossad.
The British report Wednesday quotes a UK academic, Birmingham University professor Scott Lucas, speculating that the diplomatic cable may have been a critical piece of evidence or simply a pretext on which to arrest Fashi. “It could have been used as a pretext against him; to set him up as a person who could take the fall for the assassination,” Lucas said.
There is nothing in the US document pertaining to Israel.

The evidence against him certainly sounds flimsy, but if you're an Iranian, how much contact are you going to want to have with the West after this? Let alone actually help out Israel or the US....

(Haaretz.com)The brazen 2010 assassination of a Hamas operative in Dubai, in which Israel's Mossad was accused, unfurled like a spy movie thriller — and in fact much of it was caught on camera. Now an Israeli movie plays it as a spy caper, complete with a sly seductress played by Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli. The movie "Kidon", or Spear, gives the plot a twist by having a small-time gang of criminals murder Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in an attempt to frame Israel's Mossad spy agency. Dubai police accused the Mossad of carrying out the actual hit in a five-star hotel, and released surveillance camera footage of the assassination team tracking al-Mabhouh. A number of countries also cast suspicion on Israel, angrily accusing its intelligence agency of forging passports under their citizens' names for the killers to use. Israel and the Mossad, as is their policy, never confirmed or denied involvement.

Sounds interesting, but everytime Hollywood gets a story that appears Pro Israel it gets the liberal writers trying to make the Arabs reasonable to make the drama interesting. It appears like it is because they are supposedly interested in the craft of story writing, but often film gives the Palestine narrative legs by merely presenting a so called believable bad guy who is sympathetic. The Spielberg film Schindler's List presented an actor that now claims to be a Muslim in a sympathetic light. The Jews always need to be saved from themselves in Hollywood. Later in Munich the terrorists are depicted as sympathetic and poor. The reality is most of these Muslim terrorists (especially their leaders are anything but poor) The Nazis were poor... I never saw Spielberg depict a Nazi as poor.  Why did he do it with the Arabs?

Israeli newspapers on Sunday were thick with innuendo, the front pages of the three largest dailies dominated by variations on the headline "Mysterious Explosion in Iranian Missile Base." Turn the page, and the mystery is answered with a wink. "Who Is Responsible for Attacks on the Iranian Army?" asks Maariv, and the paper lists without further comment a half-dozen other violent setbacks to Iran's nuclear and military nexus. For Israeli readers, the coy implication is that their own government was behind Saturday's massive blast just outside Tehran. It is an assumption a Western intelligence source insists is correct: the Mossad — the Israeli agency charged with covert operations — did it. "Don't believe the Iranians that it was an accident," the official tells TIME, adding that other sabotage is being planned to impede the Iranian ability to develop and deliver a nuclear weapon. "There are more bullets in the magazine," the official says.
The powerful blast or series of blasts — reports described an initial explosion followed by a much larger one — devastated a missile base in the gritty urban sprawl to the west of the Iranian capital. The base housed Shahab missiles, which, at their longest range, can reach Israel. Last week's report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran had experimented with removing the conventional warhead on the Shahab-3 and replacing it with one that would hold a nuclear device. Iran says the explosion was an accident that came while troops were transferring ammunition out of the depot "toward the appropriate site."
[I]n Sunday's editions, the Hebrew press coyly listed what Yedioth Ahronoth called "Iran's Mysterious Mishaps." The tallies ran from the November 2007 explosion at a missile base south of Tehran to the October 2010 blast at a Shahab facility in southwestern Iran, to the assassinations of three Iranian scientists working in the nuclear program — two last year and one in July.
At the very least, the list burnishes the mystique of the Mossad, Israel's overseas spy agency. Whatever the case-by-case reality, the popular notion that, through the Mossad, Israel knows everything and can reach anywhere is one of the most valuable assets available to a state whose entire doctrine of defense can be summed up in the word deterrence. But it doesn't mean Israel is the only country with a foreign intelligence operation inside Iran. The most recent IAEA report included intelligence from 10 governments on details of the Iranian nuclear effort. And in previous interviews, Western security sources have indicated that U.S. and other Western intelligence agencies have partnered with Israel on covert operations inside Iran. Sometimes the partner brings specific expertise or access. In other cases, Iranian agents on the ground who might harbor misgivings about Israel are allowed to believe they are working only with another government altogether.
Saturday's blast was so powerful it was felt 25 miles away in Tehran, and so loud that one nearby resident with combat experience thought he had just heard the detonation of an aerial bomb. "Frankly it did not sound like an arms depot from where I was because when one of those goes off, it is multiple explosions over minutes, even hours depending on the size of the facility," the resident says. "All I heard was one big boom. I was sure from the quality of the noise that anyone in its immediate vicinity was dead. Something definitely happened, but I would not trust the [Revolutionary] Guards to be absolutely forthcoming as to what it was."

The list of Iranian "accidents" over the past few years includes:

• November 2007 - Explosion in a missile base south of Tehran. Dozens of technicians are killed.
• July 2008 - Explosion in a convoy of trucks carrying missiles probably intended for Hezbollah. 15 deaths.
• August 2009 - a passenger plane crashes after takeoff from Tehran. On board were probably explosives and rockets destined for Hezbollah. 168 dead.
• October 2010 - Explosion of the Revolutionary Guard base in south-western Iran where Shahab missiles are stored. 18 dead.
• June 2011 - aircraft carrying Russian scientists who assisted in building the Bushehr reactor crashes. Dozens killed, including six scientists.
• November 2011 - Explosion at the base of the Revolutionary Guards missile. 17 killed.

A Revolutionary Guard commander killed in an explosion at an ammunition depot west of Tehran was a key figure in Iran's missile program, the elite military force said in a statement Sunday.
Gen. Hasan Moghaddam was killed together with 16 other Guard members Saturday at a military site outside Bidganeh village, 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Tehran.
Saeed Qasemi, a Guard commander, said Iran owes its missile program to Moghaddam.
"A major part of (our) progress in the field of missile capability and artillery was due to round-the-clock efforts by martyr Moghaddam," Qasemi told the conservative news website rajanews.com.
Another Guard commander, Gen. Mostafa Izadi, called Moghaddam a "founder of the Guard's surface-to-surface missile systems."
Qasemi said Moghaddam was one of a few Guard commanders favored by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"The exalted leader had a special interest in him," he said.

Mako says that Moghaddam had worked closely with Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, the senior Hamas member assassinated in Dubai nearly two years ago.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak, when asked to comment on the explosion, answered with the Hebrew phrase  "כן ירבו" which translates roughly to "May there be many more."

Dagan forced to return diplomatic passport

According to Channel 2, the step is highly unusual and other officials have been allowed to keep their passports until their expiration date has passed. Last month Dagan said that an Israeli military attack on Iran would not stop its nuclear march, at an event at Tel Aviv University. He also said that Israel should have accepted the 2002 Saudi peace plan that called for a return to the pre-1967 lines in exchange for normalization of ties with the Arab world. He was quoted in the media as saying that he decided to speak out because with his retirement in January, as well as with the recent retirement of both chief of general staff Gabi Ashkenazi and Israel Security Agency head Yuval Diskin, “there is no one to stop Bibi [Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu] and [Defense Minister Ehud] Barak.” Dagan was quoted as saying that when he was in office he, Diskin and Ashkenazi could “block any dangerous adventure.” Kadima MK Yoel Hasson called the decision to revoke Dagan's passport "a revenge campaign to settle a score with one of the best Mossad chiefs this country has known." He added, "Revoking his passport endangers Dagan's security and prevents him from enjoying the basic defense of international diplomacy in any situation that can happen to him while he is on a trip abroad. This is unexpected behavior from a prime minister and its goal is to personally hurt Dagan and to limit his activity. This is a terrible and unacceptable thing, reminiscent of tyrannical regimes."

According to the report, Grapel asked during his stay in Egypt to extend his visa, and wrote on the application that he is a Muslim who came to Cairo to study. Wikileaks: Assad not bluffing, nearly shot chem weapons at Israel

The headline of this Wikileaks disclosure is that Bashar al-Assad considered shooting chemical weapons at Israel in the aftermath of the destruction of his al-Kibar nuclear plant in 2007. But it's not the headline to which Israelis should pay attention in this story. It's the rest of it.

According to these documents, Israeli and American intelligence analysts met here in November 2009 and their deliberations produced four separate debriefings from the US Embassy to Washington.
From these it emerges that the Mossad is convinced that Syrian- and Iranian-backed Hezbollah is determined to fire as many as 400-600 rockets daily in the next round of hostilities with Israel, 100 of which will be aimed each day at Tel Aviv.
That war, estimate Mossad experts, could last for as long as two months, meaning that as many as 24,000- 36,000 missiles – 6,000 targeting Tel Aviv specifically – could be rained upon Israel from the north alone.
How the Hamas Iranian proxy would behave during that conflict is an unaddressed complication in the deeply worrying equation.
These are not speculative doomsday predictions which we can afford to repress in the far recesses of our collective consciousness. They become all the more relevant in the face of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s teetering position as he strives to hang on to power.
For one thing, the leaked information consistently reinforces allegations that, contrary to its international undertakings, Syria has continued supplying Hezbollah with ballistic missiles, including Scuds. The leaks further indicate that North Korea is stoking the regional arms build-up by providing missile systems to both Syria and Iran, which in turn sustain Hezbollah and Hamas.
The bottom line, in the Syrian context, is that Assad sits on a particularly large and nasty arsenal. Both his late father and he had practiced self-control, making their border with Israel exceedingly quiet to date, while transferring the confrontational brunt to the Lebanese and Gazan fronts. In other words, while the Assad regime had itself avoided open warfare with Israel, it was the nefarious catalyst actively fomenting trouble elsewhere.
It is in part because of his capacity for trouble-making, indeed, that the US has thus far refrained from openly calling for Assad’s removal. The conventional wisdom in Washington is that a relatively stable Syria will help facilitate the American exit from Iraq.

Sorry folks, but that's letting the tail wag the dog. Setting a deadline for a US withdrawal from Iraq was a stupid move in the first place, as was the notion of making Afghanistan the 'good war' and Iraq the 'bad war' for which George Bush was to be blamed. There is no way there can be an 'orderly withdrawal' from Iraq now. Given everything else that is going on in the region, a US withdrawal from Iraq would put it under Syrian or Iranian hegemony (or both) in about a week.

Yet assuming, for argument’s sake, that Assad does not survive the mounting challenges to his rule, into whose hands would his formidable weapons and rocket stockpiles fall? One may disbelieve certain details and incidentals in individual WikiLeaks texts, but their entirety eminently accords with what had been evident from Damascus for too long. Assad has amassed and controls particularly deadly weaponry. For Israel, Assad is a cunning enemy. The danger is that he may well be supplanted by even more malicious, yet less restrained enemies.

Actually, as cruel as it may sound, we here in Israel may be better off if the ethnic groups in Syria kill each other in a bloodbath as Israeli experts on Syria are predicting will happen if Assad is deposed. If they're busy killing each other, they will be too busy to go to war with us. If Assad is deposed, the IDF can neglect Syria and concentrate on destroying Hezbullah's capabilities in Lebanon. No, it won't be a walk in the park, but the IDF is certainly capable of handling Hezbullah. And at least if Tel Aviv is under fire (and it may be under fire from Hamas as well), you can bet that the IDF won't hold back. Goldstone will be a distant memory. The open question is what Hamas will do in response and whether Egypt will respond at all.

Wikileaks: Bahrain secretly in contact with the Mossad

There will be another "Arab Spring" in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the UAE. These revolutions are not about Democracy. These revolutions are a revolution against Democracy and the Western countries that spawned it.

He may have greeted Abu Bluff for the sake of form, but a cable released by Wikileaks reported that Bahrainian King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa told then US ambassador William Monroe in 2005 that he was in touch with the Mossad.

“[The king] revealed that Bahrain already has contacts with Israel at the intelligence/security level (ie with Mossad) and indicated that Bahrain will be willing to move forward in other areas,” the cable said.
The king also told the ambassador that he had ordered his public information minister to stop calling Israel the “enemy” or the “Zionist entity” in official statements of the kingdom, said the cable, which was released by the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.
The Israeli newspapers Haaretz and Yedioth Ahronoth recently published reports based on the cable.
The cable’s revelation comes at a delicate time for Bahrain’s Sunni royal family, which invited troops from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states last month to help quell an uprising by the country’s Shiite majority.
“In the Arab world, they hate this sort of thing and in Bahrain I’m sure it will be yet another sin [for the opposition] to beat the government with,” said Simon Henderson, a Gulf anaylst for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
“It will also not be particularly welcomed by supporters of the government, even though they might half understand that to counter Iran, the government needs to deal with a whole variety of people,” he said.
Bahraini officials could not be reached for comment.
A leading pro-government lawmaker insisted that the information about contacts with Mossad “cannot be true” because Bahraini intelligence officers “still consider [Israel] an enemy.”

But according to cables previously released by WikiLeaks, Israel has maintained covert ties with several Arab states — particularly those in the Persian Gulf, like Bahrain, that fear Iran’s spreading influence.
For example, a March 2009 cable from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv quotes Yaacov Hadas, a senior Israeli foreign ministry official, describing Israel’s growing engagement with the Gulf states.
“Hadas said the Gulf Arabs believe in Israel’s role because of their perception of Israel’s close relationship with the U.S. but also due to their sense that they can count on Israel against Iran. ‘They believe Israel can work magic,’ Hadas commented,” the cable says.
That cable described Israel’s ties with Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, but not Bahrain.

Libyan rebels have released a British special forces team who were detained when a mission to contact opponents of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi went wrong, it was revealed tonight.

The eight-strong group, who were escorting a junior diplomat, has now left the country bound for Malta on board HMS Cumberland.
...According to reports, guards challenged the SAS team when they arrived at an agricultural compound in the eastern city of Benghazi.
They were detained after a search of their bags revealed ammunition, explosives, maps and fake passports.

The BBC says the passports were from at least four different nationalities. 

In Libya, there are presently one million refugees from sub-Saharan Africa whose ambition is to get in a boat to Italy. There isn’t a lot to stop them.

Democratic Republics have limitations and checks and balances. Borders are what keep these checks and balances from representing a larger area then can be represented fairly.

A group of British agents from SAS and MI6, who traveled to Benghazi to meet with the Libyan rebels, were caught and sent back to England with their tails between their legs.
But here's the funniest part.

According to Guardian sources, the British intelligence and special forces unit were caught near the al-Khadra Farm Company, 18 miles (30km) south-west of Benghazi. A senior member of Benghazi's revolutionary council said: "They were carrying espionage equipment, reconnaissance equipment, multiple passports and weapons. This is no way to conduct yourself during an uprising.
"Gaddafi is bringing in thousands of mercenaries to kill us, most are using foreign passports and how do we know who these people are?
"They say they're British nationals and some of the passports they have are British. But the Israelis used British passports to kill that man in Dubai last year."

What, they want the Israelis to come to Benghazi to help them? Or do they fear we'll help Gadhafi? Heh.

Brodsky was arrested in Warsaw in June on a European warrant charging him with espionage and helping to falsely obtain a German passport. The passport was allegedly used in connection with the Jan. 19 slaying of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai.

The Mabhouh case led to international outrage over forged passports. Israeli diplomats were expelled from Ireland and Australia.

Nazis think they have a right to put a Jew on trial for defending his family from Hamas

The man being held by the Poles — his name, according to the Associated Press, is Uri Brodsky — is wanted in connection with the alleged murder of a leader of the military wing of Hamas, a terrorist organization backed by the same Iranian regime that backed the organization for which Hamadi worked. Why would the Germans want to help prosecute that case? Do the Germans regret the assassination that is alleged to have taken place against the leader of Hamas?

Poles support agent's extradition
Polish prosecutors will ask a Warsaw court to extradite spy suspect Uri Brodsky to Germany, the Polish News Agency reported Monday.

A spokesman for the prosecution was also quoted as saying that political considerations are not involved in the decision to extradite Brodsky.

Brodsky was arrested earlier this month for allegedly forging one of the passports used by the team that purportedly killed Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January. Germany has reportedly asked for Brodsky’s extradition because he was allegedly involved in providing false information to obtain a German passport in Cologne for a man by the name of Michael Bodenheimer that was apparently used by the squad that killed Mabhouh. In Germany, meanwhile, a spokesman for the German federal prosecutor told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that the prosecutor’s office “does not know” if Israel “intervened” with Poland regarding the extradition of the alleged spy. The spokesman said he read the news item about the Israeli government contacting Polish officials in the Der Spiegel report that broke the story. When asked what the legal timeline was in connection with the extradition process, the German spokesman said that depended on “many different factors.” He declined to give a time frame and said the legal options available to the suspect conform to EU guidelines. The UAE newspaper The National quoted on Sunday Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the Dubai Police chief, as saying Dubai would not seek the suspect’s extradition from Germany. “This person has committed the crime in Germany and therefore it is only normal that he will be prosecuted there,” he was quoted as saying. “For us, what is important [is] that he will receive his punishment irrespective of which country.” He added, however, that if Brodsky was involved in the assassination in Dubai, then his extradition would be sought.

Israeli arrested in Poland, charged with obtaining forged German passport

An Israeli was arrested in Warsaw, Poland over the weekend and charged with obtaining a forged German passport that was allegedly used in the liquidation of Hamas terrorist Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in January. The German government has asked that the Israeli be extradited to Germany, Mabhouh's family has asked that he be extradited to Dubai (Dubai says it's not interested), and Israel has asked that he be returned to Israel.

The man, using the name Uri Brodsky, is suspected of working for Mossad in Germany and helping to issue a fake German passport to a member of the Mossad operation that allegedly killed Hamas agent Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January, a spokesman for the German federal prosecutor's office told The Associated Press.
Brodsky was arrested in early June upon his arrival in Poland because of a European arrest warrant issued by Germany which is now seeking his extradition, the spokesman said, declining to be named in line with department policy.
The spokesman had no estimate of how long it could take for Brodsky to be extradited from Poland to Germany, saying the matter is now in the hands of the Polish authorities. "If Brodsky agrees, the extradition could take a few days, but that isn't likely," the spokesman said.
In Warsaw, Monika Lewandowska, a spokeswoman for Polish prosecutors, confirmed that the suspect, identified only as Uri B., was arrested at the city's international airport on June 4. She told the AP that the arrest warrant was made in connection with the murder of a Hamas member in Dubai.
"The suspect appeared before a Polish court on June 6, and was ordered to remain in temporary arrest for up to 40 days," she said. Lewandowska had no information on his possible extradition.
In Israel, the Foreign Ministry said without elaborating that it was aware of the man's fate. "At the moment, we're looking into that like any other Israeli who has been arrested, and he's getting consular treatment," spokesman Andy David said.

The German news weekly Der Spiegel reported that the arrest in Poland already has led to some diplomatic friction. The Israeli Embassy has urged Polish authorities not to extradite Brodsky, the magazine reports in its issue to be published Monday.
Germany's Foreign Ministry had no comment on the case and referred to an ongoing judicial investigation by the federal prosecutor's office. The country's top investigating unit deals with all cases affecting internal or external security, including terrorism or espionage.

Haaretz reports that the word of 'Brodsky's arrest was leaked by the German government to prevent Israel and Poland from making a deal for his release.

A German weekly's report on the arrest of an alleged Israeli Mossad agent in Poland thwarted an emerging deal for his release, Polish sources told Haaretz. As a result, both Israel and Poland suspect the story was leaked to Der Spiegel by German officials.

'Brodsky' is apparently connected to the issuance of a German passport in the name of a Bnei Brak rabbi.

Many questions remain unanswered in the affair. It is still not known, for instance, whether Uri Brodsky is the detainee's real name, or what role he allegedly played in Germany: Was he the Mossad's permanent representative in Germany, or did he come to Germany especially to secure the false passport, issued in the name of a real Israeli citizen, Michael Bodenheimer - a Bnei Brak rabbi who is entitled to a German passport because his grandparents were German?
A spokesman for Germany's federal prosecution told reporters that the offenses of which Brodsky is suspected - obtaining a document by fraud and membership in a foreign intelligence agency - carry a maximum sentence of five years.
Brodsky is not suspected of involvement in the actual hit on Mabhouh, and is not on the list of 36 suspects in that case that Dubai has given to Interpol.
Dubai's police chief, Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, announced in an interview with The National newspaper yesterday that his country has no intention of requesting Brodsky's extradition to Dubai - even though Mabhouh's family has asked Dubai to do so.
In contrast, another paper, Gulf News, reported yesterday that Dubai is still considering requesting Brodsky's extradition. But even if Dubai made such a request, it seems unlikely that either Germany or Poland would comply.

And we may have a Mossad foul-up here as well.

One complication in Israel's efforts to secure Brodsky's release is that Germany apparently issued a European arrest warrant for him rather than an Interpol "red alert."
Nick Kaufman, an attorney who specializes in international law, explained to Haaretz that a red alert merely means a suspect is wanted for questioning, and is considered nonbinding. Therefore, states can exercise some discretion over whether to comply, and the suspect can also fight the extradition in court.
However, Kaufman continued, a European arrest warrant must be honored by other European Union members, and is not even subject to judicial review in the arresting country.
Brodsky himself told the Polish authorities that he is a businessman and completely innocent of the suspicions against him.
If he is a Mossad agent, as claimed in the foreign press, the question must be asked of why the spy agency allowed him to travel to an EU member state, regardless of whether he was on personal or Mossad business?
Did the Mossad not know about the German warrant? Did it not care? Or did it simply have no choice, given its relatively small cadre of experienced agents, but to reuse some of those involved in killing Mabhouh?

Dubai police chief: We could infiltrate the Mossad

Dubai pushes false information through their channels and then blames the media for reporting it. They claim if they had known the victim was a Hamas leader they would of never allowed him in, previously the accusations against Mossad were immediate because they claimed they knew Mabhouh's identity.

The autopsy, Khalfan explained, revealed the Mabhouh was strangled after being injected with a drug that causes paralysis.

"Israeli media said he was subjected to electric shocks and this is not true."

Actually, it was Mabhouh's brother that made that claim.
