(islam versus europe)Spain's satirical magazine, El Jueves, has decided to join the Mohammed fray to show support for Charlie Hebdo. This week the magazine's front page shows several potential Mohammed look-alikes attending a police line-up.
But...does anyone know what Mohammed looks like?
José Luis Martín, member of the editorial board and employee of the magazine, responded as follows when asked about fear of reprisals: "It's not a dish that tastes good, but we cannot remain silent. We humourists cannot self-censor every time there is a danger of a violent response".Source: El Mundo

A Muhammad Cartoon a Day

When Salman Rushdie mocked Islamic sanctities in 1989 in his magical realist novel The Satanic Verses, Ayatollah Khomeini did something shockingly original: He pronounced a death edict on Rushdie and all those connected to the production of his book. By doing this, Khomeini sought to impose Islamic mores and laws on the West; we don't insult the prophet, he effectively said, and neither can you.
That started a trend of condemning those in the West deemed anti-Islamic that persists to this day. Again and again, when Westerners are perceived as denigrating Muhammad, the Koran, or Islam, Islamists demonstrate, riot and kill.
Khomeini's edict also had the unexpected side effect of empowering individuals – Western and Islamist alike – to drive their countries' policies.
On the Western side, Fleming Rose, a newspaper editor, created the greatest crisis for Denmark since World War II by publishing twelve Muhammad cartoons. Florida pastor Terry Jones caused panic for American commanders in Afghanistan by threatening to burn a Koran. Nakoula Basseley Nakoula and friends prompted a crisis in U.S. relations with Egypt with an amateurish video, Innocence of Muslims. By publishing vulgar pictures of Muhammad, French weekly Charlie Hebdo is causing the French government temporarily to shut down diplomatic missions in twenty countries. Plans by the German satirical magazine Titanic to publish attacks on Muhammad have likewise caused German missions to be closed.
On the Islamist side, an individual or group took one of these perceived offenses and turned it into a reason to riot. Khomeini did this with The Satanic Verses and Ahmad Abu Laban did likewise with the Danish cartoons. Hamid Karzai goaded Afghans to riot over burned Korans by American soldiers and Egyptian preacher Khaled Abdullah turned Innocence of Muslims into an international event.
In brief, any Westerner can buy a Koran for a dollar and burn it, while any Muslim with a platform can transform that act into a fighting offense. As passions rise on both sides of the democratized Western / Muslim divide, Western provocateurs and Islamist hotheads have found each other and confrontations occur with increasing frequency..
Which prompts this question: What would happen if publishers and managers of major media reached a consensus, "Enough of this intimidation, we will publish the most famous Danish Muhammad cartoon every day until the Islamists tire out and no longer riot"? What would happen if instances of Koran burning happened recurrently?
Would repetition inspire institutionalization, generate ever-more outraged responses, and offer a vehicle for Islamists to ride to greater power? Or would it lead to routinization, to a wearing out of Islamists, and a realization that violence is counter-productive to their cause?
I predict the latter, that a Muhammad cartoon published each day, or Koranic desecrations on a quasi-regular basis, will make it harder for Islamists to mobilize Muslim mobs. Were that the case, Westerners could once again treat Islam as they do other religions – freely, to criticize without fear. That would demonstrate to Islamists that Westerners will not capitulate, that they reject Islamic law, that they are ready to stand up for their values.
So, this is my plea to all Western editors and producers: display the Muhammad cartoon daily until the Islamists get used to the fact that we turn sacred cows into hamburger.

Medieval Mohammed Cartoon
(Islam versusEurope) Mohammed caricatures aren't new. This one dates from 1141-1143. Depicting Mohammed with feathers on his body and the tail of a fish, it appeared in the first Latin edition of the Koran, the translation having been supervised by Peter the Venerable, abbot of Cluny.

The book exists in the collection of the National Library of France. This image was featured in an exhibition in 2005. No one seemed to be offended. Maybe Muslims aren't much for museum-going.
ACTION ALERT: Facebook Censors MASSIVE "Jews" Page on Passover!
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... We have good friends who admin a massive, 245,000+ strong "JEWS" page (http://www.facebook.com/thejews) on Facebook. The "Jews" page shares a lot of our work, and a lot of other great, pro-Israel and Jewish information with their fans. Facebook appears to be in the process of censoring that page. It's either that, or an unfortunate glitch, but considering:
...we don't think this is a coincidence.
- Facebook's history of censoring pro-Israel, Jewish material (see here, here and here)
- Facebook's threats of censoring other content produced by people they arbitrarily "just don't like" (see here)
- The fact that they allow thousands of anti-Israel, Holocaust denial, and other antisemitic and Islamic terrorist pages (see here, here, here, here and many other pages on our site)
- The fact that they submitted to Islam by censoring the "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" groups
We feel this might also be politically motivated, especially considering one of Randi Zuckerberg's (sister of the founder of Facebook) recent Tweets:
Dress rehearsal for President Obama's Facebook Town Hall tomorrow! It's getting close! As compared to the "Jews" page's final post before the censorship, (linking to one of our articles):
Say whaaaat? Click "LIKE" and SHARE this if you're tired of Obama preaching to Jews! Obama Edumacates Jews about Passover: "It's like Islamic Uprisings, Ya Dig?"
We urge you to contact Facebook and ask them to either fix this "glitch" or bring this page back fully. As the admins of the page have written:
We cannot post as admins anymore to the group at large - meaning, we cannot post any more updates. And our main URL: http://www.facebook.com/thejews no longer leads to our page. Basically, these two factors are killing this page and our ability to share information....TAKE ACTION!
Here is the Jews' page main note, instructing people on what they can do to try to help:
To All Fans and Supporters of the "Jews" Page:Thank you for your help in this matter! We urge you to SHARE THIS ACTION ALERT WIDELY through email, Facebook, Twitter etc.
As we mentioned earlier, we feel Facebook might be censoring us, as we no longer have the ability to post, and clicking to our URL (http://www.facebook.com/thejews)no longer brings you to our page!
This is especially "ironic" considering the number of Islamic terrorist and other antisemitic Facebook pages which directly call for the hatred and murder of Jews all over this platform. We've worked hard to build this page up to over 245,000 "likes" (or fans) and to keep antisemitic, Islamic terrorist, and other vulgar content off of our forum.
We're hoping and praying that Facebook restores our page to its full capacity, ASAP!!
Here's how you can help:
1. Click here: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=pages_bug
2. Fill out the form as follows:
Subject: Bring back the JEWS page and full admin privileges!
Page Name: Jews
Web address (URL) of Page: http://www.facebook.com/thejews
Description of the issue you are encountering: (Post what you want here about the page, or you can use the following): I can no longer access the page via its URL: http://www.facebook.com/thejews, and the admins are saying that you have revoked their ability to bring me new updates. I love this page for its exciting content and now the admins can't bring us updates? Why do you censor Jews? This page was doing a lot of great work on Jewish/Israel issues, and I don't understand why this is happening? Please bring back this page in its full capacity ASAP! Thank you!

Thanks for your help in bringing us back to full capacity!

Jordan starts trial of Danish cartoonist for blasphemy
![]() |
‘Jihad on Danish Cartoonist’ float |
Extradited for free expression?...We all know it does happen, but Jordan is unlikely to get away with what "Liberal" States do:A Jordanian court has begun blasphemy proceedings against Danish artist Kurt Westergaard for a controversial cartoon he drew of the Prophet Mohammed.
“A court in Amman began today the trial in absentia of those who insulted the Prophet, including Westergaard and Danish newspapers which published his offensive cartoon,” said Tareq Hawamdeh, lawyer for local journalists and activists who brought the suit. The proceeding started on April 25.Does this mean that Jordanian law allows anyone worldwide to be prosecuted for blasphemy?
“Judge Nathir Shehadeh adjourned the trial until May 8 to hear the witnesses,” Mr. Hawamdeh said in a statement.
In 2005, Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten ran a feature with several different artists’ drawings under the heading “Faces of Mohammed.” The most controversial of the cartoons was Mr. Westergaard’s depicting the Prophet Mohammed with a bomb in his turban.
The Jordanian court subpoenaed Mr. Westergaard on April 14 after accusing him of committing “the crime of blasphemy.”
A Jordanian prosecutor summoned Mr. Westergaard for questioning that year after 30 independent newspapers, Websites and radio stations in Jordan sued him over the cartoon, which was published in at least 17 Danish dailies, sparking violent protests in a number of Muslim countries, including Jordan.
“These judicial steps should serve to prevent future attempts to insult Islam and stir up racial hatred towards Muslims across the world, particularly in Europe,” said Zakarya Sheikh, a spokesperson for the group of local media who is suing Mr. Westergaard.
Mr. Sheikh, who is the editor of an Islamic weekly newspaper in Jordan, sued Mr. Westergaard in 2008, saying: “I will do everything in my power to bring him to trial. He deserves the harshest punishment available within the law.”
Mr. Westergaard, 75, told Agence France-Press after the subpoena that “I have not heard about this trial and have not been informed.”
“In any case, I have no intention of going even if I am asked to,” he said, adding, “I do not want to risk becoming familiar with the Jordanian prisons, which would be hell.”
Jordanian legislators have demanded that the government sever ties with Denmark. Amman has condemned the caricature, warning that it could spark further extremism and harm relations between Denmark and Muslim countries.
In 2010 a man with ties to Somalia’s hard-line Islamist group al-Shabab was arrested after attempting to kill Mr. Westergaard in his home with an axe.
Mr. Westergaard is currently living under around-the-clock police protection.
If this is how moderate, Western-leaning Jordan acts when it is not ruled by Islamists, imagine what kind of a country it would be if it was!

O’Reilly: Koran-Burning Florida Pastor Terry Jones Has “Blood On His Hands Because He Knew Muslims Would Go Crazy”
A Pakistani boy urinates on a U.S. flag during a protest in Multan in Punjab province, against plans by Pastor Terry Jones, an obscure U.S. Protestant church leader, to burn the Koran on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Jones who said he had canceled a plan to burn copies of the Koran at his Florida church said he was suspending his decision while he had a rethink. Jones had initially called off plans to burn Korans after drawing international condemnation and a warning from President Barack Obama that it could provoke al Qaeda suicide bombings.
....Billy the Buffoon should move on to MSNBC or to some other state-run propaganda channel, he just doesn’t get it. I mean this guy is still wondering whether Zero is a ’socialist’. He doesn’t even dare to ask whether the undocumented impostor in the white house is eligible to be POTUS . This blow-boy cringes every time he has to mention Islam and Muslims. And don’t expect any defense of free speech from this jackass, because this yellow bellied coward is the first to throw the towel: Chickenshit Bill O’Reilly: “The risk [of free speech] is higher than the reward” on the South Park Fartwa
He also rudely shouted down Geert Wilders with this hopelessly clueless exclamation:
O’Reilly: “I can pull out the bible and find all kinds of inflammatory stuff”-
You can, Billy. We all can. But only a clueless, loud-mouthed jerk like you would not be able to tell the difference between the historical record, which the OT is, and the murderous, dirty book that makes the soldiers of allah kill unbelievers.

Here’s Reuters on the savage attack of UN workers in Afghanistan:
At least eight foreign United Nations workers were killed, two of them beheaded, on Friday in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif after a demonstration against the burning of Korans by a United States preacher, a regional police spokesman said. Then American journalist, Luke Russert, in a perfect example of the stunning capacity of those in the West to deny moral agency to Islamists who engage in brutal violence, Tweeted the following:
“Eight foreigners were killed and two were beheaded,” said Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, a police spokesman for the northern region.
Over a thousand protesters had flooded into the streets of the normally peaceful city after Friday prayers, and after two or three hours violence broke out.

Twitterati Morons Blame Islamic Deathfest on Qur'an Burning Pastor

The brain-dead are up in arms again – and we’re not talking about Qur’an burning pastor Terry Jones:
The kind of simple-minded, ‘me-too’ mentality that feels the need to post on Twitter’s ‘trending topics’ meme-of-the-moment timelines has gleefully rounded on Terry Jones, the US Pastor, who leads the fundamentalist Dove World Outreach Center in Florida – who finally delivered on his promise to publicly burn a Qur’an in protest at the undeniable fact that:
“…….parts of the Koran, if taken literally, do lead to violence and terrorist activities, do promote racism or prejudice against minorities, against Christians, against women,” he said shortly after the Koran burning.Using Jones’ protest as their cue – and incensed by the usual whipping-up of violent fervour by Islamic clerics, Muslims in Afghanistan went on the rampage in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. A total of fourteen people were killed, including some of the protesters themselves, three UN workers and four Nepalese guards.

The great lawyer David Yerushalmi explains why anti-Sharia laws are needed, and what they will accomplish. "States Move To Ban Islamic Sharia Law," from NPR, March 11:
More than a dozen states are now considering measures to ban Sharia, or Islamic law. One proposed bill in Tennessee has drawn criticism, with opponents saying it would infringe on religious freedoms for Muslims. Proponents of the bill say it's necessary to prevent "homegrown terror." Host Michel Martin speaks with David Yerushalmi, who wrote the policy paper that sparked the legislation in Tennessee and other states. They are joined by associate professor of Islamic and American Law at Boston College, Intisar Rabb. [...]
During last year's elections, you may remember that Oklahoma passed a referendum banning state courts from considering international or Islamic law. But it was later blocked by a federal judge who said that the law was unconstitutional.
Now more than a dozen states are considering similar measures, including Arizona, Indiana and Texas. One version that has sparked particular interest is the law being debated in Tennessee, which critics call the most far-reaching because it would make certain acts under the law a felony. Supporters of the measure say it is necessary to stop homegrown terror.
Well, opponents say the law is unconstitutional and would infringe on the religious rights of Muslims. We wanted to talk more about this, so we've called on David Yerushalmi. He wrote the policy paper that was the catalyst for the Tennessee bill, as well as bills in a number of other states. He is a lawyer who specializes in national security and he is the founder and president of a group called SANE, the Society of Americans for National Existence. He describes it as a nonprofit public policy think tank and he's with us from our NPR studios in New York.
Also joining us Intisar Rabb. She is an associate professor of Islamic law and American law at Boston College. She's also a faculty researcher with Harvard Law School's Islamic Legal Studies Program. And she joins us from the studios at Harvard University. I welcome you both and thank you both so much for joining us.
Mr. DAVID YERUSHALMI (Attorney): Thank you for having me.
Professor INTISAR RABB (Islamic Law and American Law, Boston College): So, Mr. Yerushalmi, I'll start with you because as we mentioned, your policy paper has been the intellectual basis for a number of the measures being considered around the country. Why is a bill like this necessary, first? And, secondly, what specifically do you feel that the Tennessee bill would accomplish?
Mr. YERUSHALMI: Well, let's first talk about what the bill is and then why we think it's necessary. The bill had been misrepresented by claiming that it outlaws, it criminalizes Islamic worship or even more specifically, that it outlaws or criminalizes the practice of Sharia or Islamic law. Both of those are simply spatially false.
The law goes through a litany of legislative findings, which are based upon the knowable and objective statements by jihadist around the globe, that they base their jihad on Sharia or Islamic law.
Now, from there, the statute says that if the attorney general identifies an organization that adheres to that Sharia jihad doctrine and it's either engaging in terrorism or has the intent and the capability to engage in terrorism, that organization can be designated as a Sharia organization.
Now, that part of the statute mirrors the federal statute that allows the secretary of state to designate foreign terrorist organizations.
MARTIN: Well, that was my question, Mr. Yerushalmi - and Professor Rabb, I haven't forgotten about you. But, Mr. Yerushalmi, that is my second question to you, which is, why is this necessary? Why is it necessary to single out a particular ideology when legal tools, presumably, already exist to target organizations with violent intent?
Mr. YERUSHALMI: First of all, states, as opposed to the federal government, have a compelling state interest to protect the safety of its citizens. Tennessee has had a problem of homegrown jihadists. Bledsoe, who went out to the recruiting office in Arkansas, was from Tennessee and as it were radicalized there. So that's number one.
Number two, the statute identifies a specific threat doctrine in policy and in law. The more specific you can be, as to the harm you're trying to address, the better the law is. And because we have a very specific threat of global jihad domesticized in this country, the statute is refined to just that aspect of the terrorist profile and threat that deals with this particular jihad doctrine....
There is much more -- including Yerushalmi's clarification on why such bills do not criminalize Islam or Muslim religious practice, as Hamas-linked CAIR and others have falsely claimed, and his response to defamatory charges made against him. Be sure to read it all.
SWEDEN: Politician found NOT GUILTY of offending Muslims for naked Muhammad poster
The poster included the words: “He is 53 and she is nine. Is this the kind of wedding we want to see in Sweden?”
Civil Liberty –A Swedish politician has been found not guilty of agitation against an ethnic group (Muslims) by a jury in Malmo in southern Sweden after he produced a poster depicting a naked Muhammad with his nine-year-old wife, Aisha.
Carl P Herslow, the leader of a small populist regional party in the Scania province, admitted producing the poster but said the aim of the poster was to encourage debate about Islam’s compatibility with democracy and equality, rather than insult Muslims.
After deliberating for less than an hour, the Malmo jury, which are only used in Sweden for freedom of speech cases, told the court that the courageous politician was not guilty of agitation against Muslims.
About 30% of Malmo’s inhabitants are of foreign origin, predominantly Muslim, and even without counting second generation immigrants, this puts Malmo as the Swedish city with the most immigrants per capita.
Mohammed in Maggots - Intolerant Fox
This holiday, I’m going to create a work of art. It’s going to be a miniature, bloodied, dead body of Mohammed complete with miniature turban and clutching a tiny Koran. I’m going to cover it in live maggots and film it. Then, I’m going to require a taxpayer funded art gallery to display it. In fact, I’m going to insist the Smithsonian take it. And they shouldn’t have a problem with that because right now the Smithsonian is featuring a bloodied depiction of Jesus on the cross, lying on the ground and covered in ants.

double talk. wow... she would really fit in with Hillary. The problem with these harpies is that society grooms their backbone through dating rituals. We give women the cultural right to lie to us and we condemn men when they do the same. I'm not saying that men don't lie (of course they do)... but we encourage and laugh when women do it in the name of the great so called equalizer called feminism and then encourage them into positions of power. The great victim society of the left groomed this for decades.Cartoon Not Depicting Muhammad Yanked From The Washington Post
“The Washington Post” took the publishing world’s fear of Muslim extremism one step further on Sunday by pulling a cartoon about Muhammed in which he does not appear.
By passing up on the rare opportunity for to print a non-abstract, actually funny cartoon, The Washington Post not only enraged bloggers worldwide, it also staunched the only artistic medium that still inspires my generation — comedy.
Wiley Miller’s single panel cartoon imitates the classic children’s book “Where’s Waldo?” by depicting a grassy park teaming with activity—animals frolic, children buy ice cream, adults stroll and sunbathe—and the caption reads: “Where’s Muhammad?”
It’s funny, right?
First, “The Post’s” fears are legitimate. Under FBI direction, Seattle-based cartoonist Molly Norris changed her name and went into hiding this summer after publicly encouraging a worldwide “Everyone Draw Muhammad Day,” in protest after an episode of “South Park” depicting Muhammed was censored last year. “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have received death threats.
Muslim extremists are terrifying, but Miller is still disgusted with his newspaper. The award-winning cartoonist said that it was meant to satirize “the insanity of an entire group of people rioting and putting out a hit list over cartoons.” His anger is justified, but I think he’s missing something by belittling the social role of funny cartoons to make his point.
Despite pissing off Joan Biaz by emphatically denying any political motives, Bob Dylan famously wrote songs that personalized the 60s youth experience. In doing so, he, along with a few other bands and a lot of unprotected sex, helped hippies process their anger.
My generation is deeply confused and angry about Islamic extremism as well as the West’s reaction to it. I know I personally can’t decide if Burqas are oppressive or not and if banning them is Constitutional. I think Terry Jones’s Quran-burning plan was despicable, and that Islomophobia is not only real but extremely harmful. But I’m also scared shitless of flying, and I feel sick when I think about Sakineh Muhammad Ashtiani being sentenced to death by stoning for allegedly committing adultery.
These aren’t feelings that I talk about over beers with my friends—we’d rather discuss whether or not “The Social Network’s” portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg was “scathing.” I also don’t go to concerts where musicians are singing songs about the war in Afgahnistan, and if my favorite bands started doing that unironically, I’d probably roll my eyes so far back into my head I’d go blind. Whatever the reason, music doesn’t cut it for my generation.
My feelings, mostly fears, about radical Islam are something that I almost exclusively laugh about while watching “The Colbert Report” every evening. And I think that’s what most of my generation is doing too. Stephen Colbert is our Generation’s Bob Dylan. Same role, different medium.
In protecting themselves and their cartoonist, “The Washington Post” did something worse than cower in fear of overly-sensitive Muslim terrorists. It deprived its younger readers of a laugh.

Cartoon Rage: Denmark Goes Down, Bends Over
Back in 2005, Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen set the gold standard on defending free speech when, on being approached by perpetually aggrieved Islamic ambassadors hoping for official redress against Jyllands Posten (Cartoon Rage was just kicking in), he refused to hear their complaints, explaining to them and the world that it was not his place, as prime minister, to interfere with free speech in Denmark.
“This is a matter of principle. I will not meet with them [the ambassadors] because it is so crystal clear what principles Danish democracy is built upon that there is no reason to do so…As prime minister, I have no power whatsoever to limit the press – nor do I want such power.” (continue reading: Free Speech, Then And Now/Brussels Journal)Danish FM kowtows to Muslims on Motoons: “I would just like to make it clear that this was something we found very regrettable and didn’t wish to see it repeated”

...has gone into hiding on the advice of the FBI after receiving death threats from Islamic extremist Anwar al-Awlaki...
In April, Norris published a drawing of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, which is considered blasphemous by some Muslims.
The same cleric who issued fatwa for death of Seattle cartoonist has led #Muslim prayers for U.S. Congress staff.
When a report challenging our national security policy of ignoring Islamic supremacism through Islamic law was released during a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday (disclosure: I was one of the co-authors of the report, titled: “Shariah: The Threat to America”), among the chief critics were representatives from the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association (CMSA).
This group, which has been briefing both Democrat and Republican congressional leadership in recent months, claiming that there is nothing inherently violent in Islamic law, has a very poor history of embracing Islamic radicals — even al-Qaeda terrorists.
Immediately after 9/11, the CMSA began holding Friday afternoon prayer services on Capitol Hill. Who did they choose to lead them in their prayers? Al-Qaeda sheikh Anwar al-Awlaki, who is currently subject to a kill or capture order issued by President Obama. In fact, video of al-Awlaki preaching to the CMSA was included in the 2002 documentary, Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet. (That video clip is available to view via the Investigative Project on Terrorism.)
