Law against anorexic models goes into effect

Labels: » »
There are too many people that are naturally below a certain BMI. There needs to be loopholes in the system for doctor approved exceptions. I'm glad this is going in the right direction however. Straight men are always accused of hatred towards women because of the fashion industry, but the straight men don't control the fashion industry. The fashion industry is dominated by gay men who don't love women.

Models with body mass index below 18.5 may not be shown in Israeli media, on websites or go down catwalk at fashion shows.

Starting on Tuesday, female and male models who have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5 may not be shown in the media or on Israeli websites or go down the catwalk at fashion shows.
The law, initiated by then-Kadima MK Rachel Adatto, aims to protect impressionable teens from eating disorders.
Every year, an average of 30 young adults and teens die of anorexia or bulimia.
The law, also sponsored by Likud-Beytenu MK Danny Danon and believed to be the first of its kind in the world, does make violations a criminal offense bearing a fine. But violators can be sued in court by interested citizens, including families whose relatives have suffered or died due to eating disorders encouraged by images of overly thin models.
While the media that publish or present illegal images are not liable, they will get a bad image for doing so; the company that produced the ad, ran the fashion show or used the overly skinny presenter can be taken to court. In addition, any advertisement made to look with Photoshop or other graphics programs as if the model has a BMI under 18.5 has to be labeled with the warning that the image was distorted. The warning must be clear and prominent, covering at least 7 percent of the ad space.
BMI is defined as an individual’s weight in kilos divided by the square of his or her height in meters. Would-be models in campaigns and fashion shows must first obtain and show written statements from their physician stating that their BMI – up to a maximum of three months ago – was above 18.5.
If not, they can not appear.
Adatto, a gynecologist by profession who is not likely to return to the Knesset because since she joined The Tzipi Livni Party and was placed in a low position on the list, said that on January 1, a “revolution against the anorexic model of beauty begins. Overly skinny models who look as if they eat a biscuit a day and then serve as a model for our children” will no longer be visible.
Every year, some 1,500 teenagers develop an eating disorder, and 5% of those suffering from anorexia die each year. The problem even effects the ultra-Orthodox community because some haredi men increasingly demand very-thin brides.
Adi Barkan, a veteran fashion photographer and model agent who “repented” and is in the Israel Center for the Change in Eating Habits and a prime advocate for Adatto’s bill, said: “We are all affected. We wear black, do [drastic] diets and are obsessive about our looks. The time has come for the end of the era of skeletons on billboards and sickly thinness all over. The time has come to think about ourselves and our children and take responsibility for what we show them. Too thin is not sexy.”
The Second Authority for Television and Radio, which regulates commercially operated television and radio broadcasts, has already issued instructions to its employees to observe the new law.

Hugo Boss 'Sorry' for Founder's Nazi Past

(Getty Images)(Newser) After the end of World War II, Hugo Boss said he had supported the Nazis to keep the company he founded afloat. But the fashion firm has admitted that there was another reason: He was a big fan of the Nazis. Boss—who was Hitler's favorite tailor and supplied the Nazis with uniforms from the party's early days onward—"did not only join the party because it led to contracts for uniform production, but also because he was a follower of National Socialism," writes the author of a history of the company during the Nazi years, which it commissioned itself, the BBC reports. Records unearthed by the author show that one of the company's factories was staffed by 140 forced laborers kidnapped from Poland by the Gestapo, reports the Telegraph. The firm wishes to "express its profound regret to those who suffered harm or hardship at the factory run by Hugo Ferdinand Boss under National Socialist rule," it says on its website. The company's founder, who died in 1948, was tried and fined after the war for his links to the Nazis.

The ferocity of the purge in which they were subsequently purged was such that the word "purge" doesn't really convey it. Imagine pigbreathed men wandering blindfolded through the crowd at a Coldplay concert, swinging chainsaws, flamethrowers and yetis about in a random but deadly fashion, and you're getting close.

and yet a CNN Poll Shows Highest Support for Israel; Lowest for Palestinians in History

The Blind Accordion Player (Ben Shahn)

Those who survived were a red-eyed phalanx of psychos who snorted vodka, smoked trees, dammed rivers with human heads, played Poland like an accordion and parked their tanks on top of Hitler's house. Not pretty, but more effective at getting rid of Nazis than Futurist poetry, innovative camera techniques and endless speccy speeches. via alfanalf.blogspot.com

CNN Poll Shows Highest Support for Israel; Lowest for Palestinians in History

According to a new CNN Poll Americans sympathize more with Israelis than Palestinians by 67 to 16%.
...who is going to tell these back-up singers
that dressed that way in a "Palestine"
is not the most advisable way to go about?
And [the Pro Palestinian] fellow

very unhappy with that cleavage.

Sympathy with Israel is up from 60% in 2009. While 65% says the U.S. should not take either side in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, 35% say the U.S. should take Israel's side while just 1% favors backing the Palestinians.

Dictators' Wives

Bashar Al-Assad's wife, Asma...
Elena Ceauses
During the last few weeks, much has been said about dictators in the Arab world, but not as much about their wives. All of them have been living, and still do, next to their husbands, and playing a role similar to that of some European dictators' wives of the past, such as Elena Ceausescu, who, under her husband's regime, became a major Romanian political figure and, to prop up her image, even pretended to have made new scientific discoveries.
The wave of protests that shook the Middle East has put under the spotlight some first ladies of the region, many of whom, until recently, competed in who was the most elegant and the most socially engaged. Now, however, some of them have been forced to flee (taking with them tons of gold); others continue to live their golden lives, although with the fear that street protests might topple their husbands' regimes.

Bashar Al-Assad's wife, Asma, in Syria has been recently been crowned with a controversial article in Vogue magazine as an outstanding "glamorous, young and chic" woman. Notwithstanding her trendy status, she never showed any uneasiness about being the wife of a dictator who succeeded his father power in 2000, and is responsible for the torture and death of countless political opponents.

Libya’s first lady owns 20 tons of gold: reports via alarabiya.net

In Qatar, the beautiful Emir's wife, Sheikha Moza,
Sheikha Moza
is travelling throughout the Middle East and to New York to speak about democracy and reforms, when her own country does not even have an elected Parliament.

After the fall of the 23 year old Tunisian regime of Ben Ali, the international media have spoken at length about the former rais's wife, Leila Trabelsi, who started as a hairdresser,
Leila Trabelsi
and eventually reached stardom as "Carthage's Regent". While many of her countrymen do not have the means even to buy the daily bread, she bought a coat at Dior's in 2000 for 30.000 Euros and had the bill sent to the Tunisian Embassy in Paris as if it was her office.
Suzanne Mubarak
Sa'ad Eddin Ibrahim
Losing the title of First Lady just after Leila, was the Pharaoh's wife, Suzanne Mubarak. She has always tried to portray herself as an intellectual and socially engaged woman; she studied with Sa'ad Eddin Ibrahim, an eminent Egyptian sociologist, and an opponent to the regime. Even though she did not hold any official position, Suzanne Mubarak headed various "charitable" organization;. however, no public figure could become part of this sector without her consent. According to the French magazine Paris Match, Mrs. Mubarak received annually from the Egyptian for her activities US $5 billion, part of which – as reported by the French weekly – went directly into her personal bank account.
Egyptians contend that Suzanne Mubarak's campaigns were only meant to give her good publicity, particularly in the West, where she was widely celebrated. The most prominent Egyptian activist for Women's Rights, Nawal Saadawi, a medical doctor and a political dissident, said that Suzanne Mubarak, just like other dictators' wives, suffers from the same complex as her husband: she would like be the leader. According to Saadawi, Mrs. Mubarak killed the feminist movement in order to lead it, thereby impeding any possible progress for women's rights. During the uprising of Tahrir Square, she was often compared to Queen Marie Antoinette of France for her lavish lifestyle and for failing to be in touch with the reality of her country.
In the meanwhile, on YouTube, can be found a parody of a phone call from Leila Trabelsi in Saudi Arabia to Suzanne Mubarak: "We are one family," says Leila. "Take your stuff and come over here. But, before leaving, don't forget to stop at your bank; you will need some cash to save your bottom.".
Abdelmajid Mahmoud, the Egyptian General Public Prosecutor, must have taken this call seriously: he decided to forbid the Mubarak family to leave the country, froze their real estate assets, their bank accounts and their stocks. However, this satiric invitation of Lelila's may come handy for other first ladies in the Middle East, who may soon have to face the revolt of their chauffeurs and servants.

Natalie Portman Condemns John Galliano's Antisemitic Slurs

As someone who used to work in the fashion industry selling the advertising for the designers and industry I can tell you this is the tip of the iceberg. If you don't believe me find a copy of LeBook or BlackBook open up the pages and call some designers, stylists or art directors at random. Fashion is not only French. Fashion has a very strong contingent in some of the most Anti-Semitic places on earth... such as Lebanon for example. In my case I was wronged by a Swedish company called Modern Holdings who balked on their promises and saw their Jewish consultant and representative as politically disposable, but this Swedish thinking is prevalent in the industry. Fashion in the end is not art. I repeat it is not art. Fashion is mercantile. Fashion is married to economics and revenue... and one doesn't need to be creative to realize how a Jew fits into their bias. Fashion is full of merchants, trade and it's origins are involved in a unique and exclusive thread in Jewish culture. Jewish culture will always be influenced by the garment industry which is one of the few places Jews were allowed to make an honest living. Jews were both the innovators and the victims. Many forget the Triangle factory fire was also the fashion industry for example: The lives of those Jewish women that had to jump out of hot windows similar to the WTC a century later is bound to cultural elitists and their bigotry that never stopped. When abusive labor conditions aimed at Jews ended a public relations war in the name of Anti-Zionism launched.

(VIDEO) John Galliano stating, "I love Hitler," and, "People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f**king gassed." The clip was reportedly taken at La Perle, the bar where Galliano was arrested for assault and making anti-Semitic remarks last Thursday.

(NY TIMES) The actress Natalie Portman, who has an endorsement contract with Dior for its Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, has strongly condemned its chief designer, John Galliano, for anti-Semitic remarks after a video surfaced of Mr. Galliano appearing to deliver a tirade in a Paris bar
Progressives created an epidemic. the fashion world blusters with elitist politics of academia of Chomsky and Norman G. Finkelstein. Should we put our heads in the sand and pretend we don't know where the hate comes from? Listen to what these people are talking about!

I can’t applaud Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman, the way everyone else is doing. She’s not exactly the “Proud Jews” she claims to be....
Portman–who was born in Israel and whose father is Israeli–still brags about her ongoing friendship with Jordanian Palestinian Queen Rania, an open anti-Semite and Jew-hater. In fact, Rania is so much of a Jew-hater that she repeatedly refused to have her dumb propaganda book printed in Hebrew.  Don’t do us any favors, Rania. The kids book, “The Sandwich Swap,” is supposedly about peace and understanding, but really just preaches tolerance for extremist Muslims, equating their extremism to a mere preference of peanut butter over jelly.  Yup, tell that to the ghosts of 9/11, no longer getting to custom order their PB&J.

Male Fashion Show Models Fined for Wearing ‘Indecent’ Makeup

Labels: »

Genocide and slavery OK, lighting makeup for a male model and sharing the catwalk with women - er, not so OK...

But, naturally in the surreal world of the RoP, it’s completely OK to kidnap your compatriots and enslave them:
A Sudanese court convicted seven men of indecency on Wednesday after police accused them of wearing makeup during a fashion show in Khartoum, their lawyer said.
The men, amateur models at the “Sudanese Next Top Model Fashion Show” in June, were arrested by the public order police, a body known for its crackdowns on perceived indecent dress and drinking in the Muslim north, one defendant told Reuters.
All seven were found guilty on Wednesday and each fined 200 Sudanese pounds, as was a woman who faced the same charge for applying the makeup, said lawyer Nabil Adib.
“The court thought that they were indecently dressed … The judge thought that wearing makeup could be offensive for men and allowing a woman to put makeup on men was against the law,” said Adib.
The lawyer said he had argued in court that men, including religious preachers, regularly wore makeup for appearances on Sudan’s state television station.
The defendants could have faced a maximum punishment of 40 lashes and imprisonment, said Adib.
Sudanese U.N. official Lubna Hussein was briefly jailed for wearing trousers in public after being found guilty for the same offence in 2009, a case that drew international criticism.
It isn’t the first time that the Sudanese version of the successful ‘America’s Next Top Model’ format has been the target of Islamist ire. Earlier in the year, the whole contingent of one of the shows was arrested for sharing a mixed catwalk (the horror!).
And it appears from the pictures we’ve seen that we’re not talking about cross-dressing of any kind here – the models appeared merely to be wearing lighting makeup and the clothes themselves seemed fairly conventional.
But that’s more than enough for some good old Morality Police action, it seems, once the now-familiar green mist of Islamic outrage begins to effuse.
The twin hallmarks of Muslim-majority countries practising Sharia (in this case one run by a genocidal maniac) are all too evident in divided Sudan – low levels of economic and human development and high levels of state-imposed ‘morality’.
But things may be about to change in this most benighted of countries.
We await with interest the result of an upcoming referendum to split the country between the Muslim North and the Christian South, which is due to take place on January 11 next year.
The coming years (if they are not blighted by civil war and terrorism which, if either occurs, will almost certainly have been instigated by the Muslim North), will bring into sharp relief the difference between the associated cultures of the two faiths.
We think that the South, given the opportunity, will rapidly out-develop its northern neighbour (indeed, there are signs it’s already happening); as the superior combination of Christianity and a secular state tends to focus on the work ethic and the wellbeing of it people; as opposed to the constant invocation of inimical 1400 year-old rules and ‘values’.

I noticed that the younger terrorist's style was less garish, more military and as he got older his taste... well got worse.
not saying this means anything. The German National Socialists had great style.

I wonder if Marc Garlasco of Human Rights Watch will be collecting Qaddafi's outfits too?
