French writer Richard Millet, who caused an uproar late August for praising Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik in a pamphlet, has had to step down from a top position with France’s prestigious publisher Gallimard, though he remains on the payroll.
A writer who argued in an essay that Norway deserved mass-killer Anders Breivik has been forced to step down from a prestigious role with top French publishers Gallimard.
Richard Millet remains a Gallimard employee, the company stressed Friday, but he will no longer sit on its committee of readers, which helps select books for publication and shapes the output of established writers.
Millet will continue to look after the writers he handled for the publishers, Gallimard said.
It remains to be seen how many of them will want to continue to be associated with him following an outcry over a publication branded "fascist" by a group of 120 writers this week.
Antoine Gallimard, chief executive of the publisher, had written to Millet to express his shock at the end of August, soon after the pamphlet "In Literary Praise of Anders Breivik" was published.
On Monday, Gallimard wrote to the writer once more to remind him that "as a member of the committee of readers, he represents the (publishing) house."
Millet's position had been made untenable and he duly announced his resignation from the reading committee late on Thursday.
The writer insists he does not approve of Breivik's crimes but wrote approvingly of the Norwegian's 1,500-page online manifesto which outlines his hatred for social democracy, immigration and multiculturalism.
"Breivik is without doubt what Norway deserves," Millet wrote, arguing that the killer was as much a child of a broken family as he was the product of an ideological-racial divide caused by immigration from outside Europe.
A prolific novelist and essayist, Millet has been the editor of two winners of France's literary prize, the Goncourt -- Jonathan Littel (2006) and last year's winner Alexis Jenni.
Despite a traditional reluctance in France's literary world to do anything which could be seen as restricting the freedom of speech, several Gallimard writers had urged the publisher to distance itself from Millet.
In an article for Le Monde this week, to which 120 writers put their names, novelist Annie Ernaux desribed the essay as a "fascist pamphlet that is a disgrace to literature."

The foundation arranges tours for students to the Nazi’s KZ camps, in order to increase the fund of knowledge over human rights and encourage students to display personal responsibility. Breivik is standing trial in Norway in a shooting and bombing massacre in July that killed 77 people, including children. An English-language video interview on the website of VG Nett shows Forts defending Breivik's actions. Why a person who home-schools his children gets a say in the question of what books the school students can or cannot read, is ridiculous. The irony here is how useful a tool the book is today to justify a military venture and I'm sure this right wing home schooling fellow felt threatened by criticism of our military. If one has a historic reference where "Disproportionate Retaliation" was used against the NAZIS, then it could be ironically used to justify an attack in Afghanistan or Gaza. Censorship is a very poor response to ideas. Why did Anders Breivik kill Norwegians and not Muslims?

Anders Behring Breivik is an updated Hitler hybrid. The goals are shared, but the methodology is changed. He isn't interested in outside his Cultural Christian (but tolerant to atheism) borders. Anders' attack was against Socialists. Socialists that were hostile to the West, but he didn't see them as inherently hostile. Muslims were merely a side theatre. And yet he didn't seem to have any real beef with Socialism. For Anders it was all about the dangers of "Internationalism", but he seemed content with large government if he could control it. He had no problems with attacks against Muslims, as a way of encouraging Jihadi attacks, but even in this case, Muslims are just tools in his fight against the European traitors. Breivik did call himself a Christian, but meant that in a cultural sense, rather than a theological one. He emphasized that he was not seeking a theocracy, but a secular society. His idea of a Christian Europe had nothing to do with religion. Breivik was in favor of allying with Israel, India and other minorities in the Muslim world as part of the struggle against Islam. The idea that he was a Zionist or felt any particular affinity for Israel is baseless. Rather Breivik describes the majority of German Jews as disloyal and suggests that if Hitler had deported them, instead of exterminating them he would have become a hero.

If the NSDAP had been isolationistic instead of imperialistic (expansionist) and just deported the Jews (to a liberated and Muslim free Zion) instead of massacring them, the anti-European hate ideology known as multiculturalism would have never been institutionalized in Western Europe.

Breivik does mention that large numbers of Jews would have to be executed as Class A or Class B traitors, but urges targeting by political belief, rather than by race.
While most have swallowed the idea that Breivik was a counterjihadist, his actual plan was to exploit tensions over Muslim terrorism, in order to conduct a campaign of terrorism against European targets and seize power with a more stable version of National Socialism.
Breivik was not a Nazi himself, for tactical reasons, because he disagreed with Nazi expansionism. But his own plan called for the use of WMD's in Europe and the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of traitors. The echoes of the Turner Diaries are very obviously present in his manifesto.
Breivik viewed Muslims as the enemy, but only domestically. He emphasized that;

And he contemplated collaborating with them on terrorist attacks against Europe.

Ask yourself if these are the words of a anti-Jihadist who was fighting against Islam. Or a delusional European terrorist who was willing to ally with Jihadist against his fellow Europeans.
Breivik spells out that he is willing to kill Europeans on behalf of just about anyone...

He sets out a case against multiculturalism, Marxism and Islam that would not be out of place in many popular websites and blogs. In fact, he quotes a few of them...If there is any point in the work where he crosses the line from a political analyst to a budding terrorist, it might be where he sets out the Christian justification for a new Crusade. He writes that

My father says I'm a Jew that has the sensibility and cultural sense of Christian. I'm Pro Life and against Gay Marriage, but this Christian named Anders Behring Breivik has the sensibility of a Muslim. He even visits whores before the attack. I wouldn't indulge any labels.  Religious and political schisms are not in his psyche.  I get the feeling that many bloggers are trying to respond to accusations that the "Elder's" politics were somehow at fault. I wouldn't worry about it.  I also saw Pamela Geller tweeting about how Charles Johnson got mentioned more then she did... so therefor she is less guilty? I've never seen on any Anti-Jihad blog, any attempt to promote a violent crusade within a Western country. When the media says a man was a right winger in #Oslo that did the killing, what do they mean?

Was he against Israel? In one of his posts he states that politics today no longer revolves around socialism against capitalism, but that the fight is between nationalism and internationalism. He expressed clear support for the nationalist mindset. This guy wanted the labor party politicians to feel his pain, a pain that may reflect the loss as a result of the immigrant onslaught, by killing their children, and attacking their government building seems like a way to get his point across. If you are indeed deranged by a tragic event that could have happened to your family by Immigrants, then who knows what his views were. So this man was a right wing NATIONALIST... but what kind? Was he a complete Xenophobe or just one who rightly feared Islam? The media really should clarify. This reminds me of the Holocaust Museum shooter in Washington that the media said was a Conservative and it turned out the guy voted for Jimmy Carter.
