Nothing worse then someone asking 'what did you do with your day?' when what they really mean is they hate. If you really did something meaningful with your day do you think you could explain it in a friendly one sentence answer? of course not. because the friendly hello how are you question is hostile and so is a question like 'what did you do with your day?' 'How are you?' is really a way of insuring the other party will cooperate and 'what did you do with your day?' really translates to you are worthless because if someone really did anything important worth talking about then they couldn't sum it up with a short reply and if they were just doing what they should they probably don't have anything outstanding to talk about.
