Eye On The World: Nice photo of the Palestinians from 2006

New reports by Palestinian rights groups highlight a surprising symmetry in the abuse that the U.S.-backed government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank and his Iranian-supported rivals Hamas in Gaza inflict on each other. Fidel Castro Takes Blame for Persecution of Cuban Gays

Fidel Castro Takes Blame for Persecution of Cuban Gays

BBC: Fidel Castro has said that he is ultimately responsible for the persecution suffered by homosexuals in Cuba after the revolution of 1959.
The former president told the Mexican newspaper La Jornada that there were moments of great injustice against the gay community.
"If someone is responsible, it's me," he said.
In the 1960s and 70s, many homosexuals in Cuba were fired, imprisoned or sent to "re-education camps".
Mr Castro said homosexuals had traditionally been discriminated in Cuba, just as black people and women.
But, nevertheless, he admits he didn't pay enough attention to what was going on against the gay community.
"At the time we were being sabotaged systematically, there were armed attacks against us, we had too many problems," said the 84-year-old Communist leader.
"Keeping one step ahead of the CIA, which was paying so many traitors, was not easy."
In 1979, homosexuality was decriminalised and, more recently, there have been efforts to legalise same-sex unions. >>> | Tuesday, August 31, 2010
Asking for an apology from a guy who destroyed lives for a half a century and more is a joke. Do you think Fidel would come clean about what he did to the state of Israel and about his empathy for fascism?

We were very peaceful activists but the IDF came to kill

I don't know about you, but when I see someone I think is trying to kill me I generally don't act like an uptight stiff and I try to accommodate. The videos I saw was her acting uppity. I grew up near Columbia University. There was a story about a preppy college kid who acted smart and reminded his robbers that they forgot twenty dollars. He was shot dead. If the IDF were really the intolerant menace she describes she would of got the Columbia University mugger treatment. Obviously she is lying and manipulative. her damn photo tells the whole story. She is a snotty woman who gets off on this. 'Israeli Arab' MK Hanin Zoabi testified before the UN 'Human Rights Council's commission investigating the Mavi Marmara incident on Tuesday.
"It was evident from the beginning that the commandoes viewed all of us activists as terrorists," Zoabi told The Associated Press after her testimony before a three-member U.N. team headed by Karl Hudson-Phillips, former judge of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
"Israel's use of large numbers of elite troops with sophisticated weaponry showed it intended to kill the passengers," added the lawmaker, who was aboard the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara, where the killing took place. "We were very peaceful activists, but the commandoes came to kill," she said.
Watch the videos. You'll be convinced otherwise.
back to the Columbia University story.... it was probably someone who Obama knew who got shot for acting snotty to a mugger, because Obama was at the school when this went down. Not really relevant to the story... but in some ways it is.

Four Jews Murdered in Arab Terror Attack Near Hevron

Labels:

Palestinian terrorists murdered four Jewish civilians in a shooting attack at the Bani Naim junction just south of Hevron Tuesday evening. Emergency service paramedics could do nothing to save the victims whose bodies were riddled with bullets. The terrorists reportedly made sure their victims were dead by shooting them from close range after the initial fusillade.
The victims are a husband and wife, parents of ten, and two passengers. Their names were cleared for publication Tuesday night by local police:

  • Yitzhak and Talia Ames
  • Kochava Even Chaim
  • Avishai Shindler
The four were all citizens of Beit Hagai.
A Zaka volunteer who arrived on the scene broke down in tears when he neared the car and discovered that one of the victims was his wife. The IDF is combing the area, searching for the terrorists.
One of the victims had a license for a gun that was suspended shortly before the attack. Itamar Ben-Gvir and Baruch Marzel said at the scene that serious soul-searching must be done "in order to find out how it is that Jews are deprived of the basic right to defend themselves."
Hamas took "credit" for the terror attack.
The terror attack is typical of Arab "resistance" attacks that intentionally target civilian victims. A survey carried out by a PA organization in early August found that among the Arab public in the Palestinian Authority, over 55% view violence as either essential or desirable, nearly 31% see it as either acceptable or tolerable, and only 13.7% say it is unacceptable.
The attack was probably timed to coincide with and affect the direct talks between Israel and the PA in Washington, D.C., that are to begin Thursday. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said upon landing in Washington that the talks would proceed as planned, despite the murders.

The scene of the attack.

Bullets smashed through the windshield.
of course this will have no effect on any so called peace negotiations between Israel and someone who has nothing to do with this attack. Why are we talking to a person without any power?

Qadaffi Demands Tribute from the EU

Labels: »
The variously-spelled Muammar Ghedaffi is visiting Italy again, and has been engaging in his customary idiosyncrasies since his arrival. Yesterday he hectored the Italians about their lack of respect for women, and today he is demanding annual payments from the EU — or else.
Muammar QadaffiAnd what is Col. Gadafi threatening if Europe fails to heed his demand for jizyah payments? He promises the Europeans that if they don’t pony up, they will be overwhelmed by black immigrants from Africa.
When reading about the Colonel’s warning, it’s important to remember that he is not threatening the EU with the prospect of Libyans or Tuaregs or Egyptians. He is promising an influx of those whom Libyans (and all Arabs) consider sub-men: negroes. Arabs refer to black Africans as ’abeed (the plural of ’abd), which means “slaves” or “negroes” interchangeably.
So watch out, Europe! Time to get out the checkbook:
EU: Pay Billions or be Swamped by Black Africans, Warns Gadaffi
Rome, 31 August (AKI) — The European Union must pay 5 billion dollars annually to stem the tide of illegal immigrants departing from Libya’s shores — otherwise Europe could be become an African outpost, Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi has claimed.
Gadaffi made the provocative remarks during a two-day visit to the Italian capital, Rome to mark the second anniversary of a controversial bilateral ‘friendship’ pact.
“Libya, with Italy’s support, asks the EU to provide at least 5 billion dollars a year to stop illegal immigration, otherwise Europe could one day become part of Africa — it could become black, because millions want to come here,” Gadaffi said.
He made the remarks during a speech at a gala dinner in Rome late on Monday hosted by Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and attended by 800 people.
- - - - - - - - -

Guests at the ‘iftar’ feast to break the Ramadan fast included several cabinet ministers and the heads of Italy’s main business association Confindustria, its largest defence and aerospace company Finmeccanica and energy giant ENI.
“Libya is a gateway for illegal immigration and so we need to work together to combat this phenomenon,” Gadaffi added.
Earlier during his visit, Gadaffi drew criticism from the EU and Catholics for telling hundreds of young women he invited to hear him speak that he hoped Islam would become the 27-member bloc’s religion.
Under the friendship pact, Italy’s conservative government agreed pay Libya some 5 billion dollars (4 billion euros) in reparations for transgressions committed during three decades of Italian colonial rule over the North African nation from 1911-1943.
The money will mostly be invested in infrastructure projects, including a new 2,700 kilometre highway across Libya from Tunisia to Egypt.
Italy also provided several coastal patrol boats to intercept vessels transporting illegal immigrants to Italian shores, as part of a controversial agreement to turn back immigrants in the Mediterranean.
Italy is Libya’s largest trading partner and it is Gadaffi’s fourth visit in two years.

By the way: as a matter of principle, I try never to spell Moamer Ghadafi the same way twice. It’s easy to manage, because the numerous variant official spellings of his name allow the enterprising blogger to refer to him hundreds of times without being orthographically repetitive.

With GOP like this who needs Democrats?
support Barbara Boxer. At least she supports Israel. (updated: no Barbara does not)
When the GOP wants to really be the party they claim to be... let me know.
Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is coming to Israel for the weekend.
Republican Senate nominee Carly Fiorina has maintained a vigorous pace on the campaign trail this summer, but at the traditional kickoff to the general election she is heading to Israel for what her aides describe as a "personal trip."
The Labor Day weekend tour is a surprising diversion for the first-time candidate, who weighed in on U.S.-Israeli relations during her primary campaign but has kept a laser-like focus on job losses and rising government spending while sparring with Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer this summer.
Although Fiorina's campaign manager, Marty Wilson, said the trip is not intended to "drive any publicity" while she's in the country, it seems destined for maximum exposure.
It will serve to remind conservative evangelicals, a key Republican voter bloc that sympathizes with Israel, of Fiorina's candidacy, and could also capture the attention of Jewish voters, who usually side with Democrats.
The four-day trip is being arranged and paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition. It begins a day after Israeli and Palestinian leaders are scheduled to resume direct peace talks in Washington and right after Fiorina's first debate with Boxer, two events that could steer voters' attention back to foreign policy.
Wilson dismissed questions about the timing by saying that the former Hewlett-Packard chief executive has long wanted to visit Israel. "They are a vital link to that region of the world; they are a democracy and one that we have to support," Wilson said. "For Carly to be informed and updated on what's happening over there is a good thing."
Fiorina, however, suggested in an interview with an Israeli business publication earlier this month that she had more ambitious designs. Alluding to a possible trip, she said she hoped to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Shimon Peres and Defense Minister Ehud Barak to "convey directly to the people of Israel that they will not have a stronger friend in the U.S. Senate than me."
asskissing where she needs to put it for her career.

Richard Cohen - Time stands still in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Labels:
Richard Cohen has shown over the decades to have no loyalty to a Jewish State, but now he seems to be showing some new colors.  He is starting to understand what the rest of America thought was obvious.

Say what you will about the Arab world, it's hard to earn its gratitude. President Obama went to Egypt and not Israel. He demanded that Israel cease adding new settlements in the West Bank. He treated Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu with a chilling disdain. For all of that, though, Obama's approval rating in Arab countries has sunk. Unlike almost a fifth of Americans, the Arab world clearly knows Obama is no Muslim.
The polls show some startling numbers. When this spring the Pew Global Attitudes Project asked residents of Islamic countries what they thought about Obama, he got good marks when it came to such matters as climate change. But when the question was the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the numbers not only declined in Indonesia and Turkey, they nearly went through the floor in the three Arab countries polled. In Jordan, 84 percent disapproved of the way Obama was handling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In Egypt, the figure was 88 percent and in Lebanon it was 90 percent.
For Obama, the figures must be disheartening. They strongly suggest that his attempt to woo the Arab world, to convince it that America can be an honest broker between Israel and the Palestinians, has dismally failed. In fact, the extent of this failure is most stark in Lebanon. There, 100 percent of Shiite respondents -- in other words, Hezbollah and others -- have no faith in Obama and his good intentions. This may be a setback for Obama, but it is paradoxically a success for American values.
What the Arab world seems to appreciate is that America will never agree to what the Arab world most wants -- an Islamic state where a Jewish one now exists. This entirely reasonable conclusion is based on what has long been American policy -- not what the State Department wanted but what the American people supported. America has always liked the idea of Israel. The Arab world, for totally understandable reasons, has always hated it. Nothing has changed.
A fundamental document in this area -- a once-secret CIA analysis from 1947 -- was unearthed (to my knowledge) by Thomas W. Lippman and reported in the winter 2007 issue of the Middle East Journal. The CIA strongly argued that the creation of Israel was not in America's interests and that therefore Washington ought to be opposed. This was no different than what later diplomats and military men (most recently, David Petraeus) have argued and it is without a doubt correct. Supporting Israel hurts America in the Islamic -- particularly the Arab -- world and, given the crucial importance of Middle Eastern oil, makes no practical sense.

The CIA further argued that the so-called Arab-Israeli conflict would soon widen to become an Israeli-Islamic conflict -- another bull's-eye for what was then an infant intelligence service. That process was already underway, which is why some non-Arabs (Bosnian Muslims, for instance) fought the creation of Israel, and has only intensified as radical Islam, laced with healthy doses of anti-Semitism, has gotten even stronger.
But where the CIA went wrong -- and not, alas, for the last time -- was in predicting that the Arabs would defeat Israel and that the state would not survive. The CIA was pretty sure of the outcome, what a later CIA figure might have called a "slam dunk."
What neither the CIA nor, for that matter, the anti-Israel State Department recognized in the late 1940s is that America's interests are not always measurably pragmatic -- metrics, in the jargon of our day. Sometimes, our interests reflect our national ethic, an affinity for other democracies, sympathy for the underdog. These, too, are in America's interests and they may be modified, but not abandoned, for the sake of mere metrics.
This is why Obama's overture to the Arab world, clumsily executed, was never going to succeed. America can please some Arab governments -- Egypt and Jordan, for instance -- but not the Arab people. What they want, and what they have been told repeatedly they deserve, is a return of Palestinian refugees to what is now Israel and control over all of Jerusalem. These are both out of the question as far as Israel is concerned. It is not willing to give up its capital and, in a relatively short time, its Jewish majority.
This week, Palestinians and Israelis will once again talk peace in Washington. But until both sides, particularly the Arab peoples, give up on what they really want, the clock will remain where it has been. Those Pew polls show that's around 1947.

Note for Israel-PA Talks: It Was not The Luck of the Irish But Effective Counter-Terrorism That Brought Peace

Labels: »
As direct Israeli-Palestinian direct talks restart it is useful to recall the use and misuse of an analogy to the case of Northern Ireland.

In October 2001, British Foreign Minister Jack Straw visited Washington and held a press conference with his U.S. counterpart, Secretary of State Colin Powell. Powell bubbled over about how the Irish agreement supposedly showed:

"An example of what can be achieved when people of good will come together, recognize they have strong differences, differences that they have fought over for years, but it's time to put those differences aside in order to move forward and to provide a better life for the children of Northern Ireland."

This is the sort of naive optimism (let's all just get along, peace is the natural order of things, everybody is really moderate at heart) that Americans so often evince. As the great French intellectual Raymond Aron once explained, "The Americans always have the tendency to believe that wars result from misunderstanding or accidents and suppose that no one could possibly want a war."

In this case, though, Straw dumped cold water on Powell's world view." What he said is worth quoting fully:

"Could I just add one thing to that, if I may? Of course, negotiation is far, far better--infinitely better -- than military action. As far as Northern Ireland is concerned, we welcome hugely the progress that has been made following the Good Friday Agreement. It also has to be said that before that happened, there had to be a change of approach by those who saw terrorism as the answer. And that approach partly changed because of the firmness of the military and police response to that terrorism. And if there had not been that firm response by successive British governments and others to the terrorist threat that was posed on both sides, we would not have been able to get some of those people into negotiations. We would not be marking what is a satisfactory day in the history of Northern Ireland today."

In other words, the terrorists were defeated by tough action, saw they couldn't win, and thus had to change their approach. Of course, in the Israel-Palestinian case, there has been no such attitude toward terrorism internationally. Hamas has been saved as the Gaza Strip's ruler thanks to Western action; the Palestinian side has not been forced to pay the price for violence and intransigence (rejecting Camp David and the Clinton plan, launching a second intifadah, continuing incitement, etc.) and thus has been had to give up the hope of total victory and belief that violence and intransigence could bring that about.

That's a key reason why the current talks will fail.

Harlem, NY - Rep. Charles Rangel: President Obama Needs Me to Stay in Office

Labels:
Harlem, NY - Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel vowed on Sunday to stick around.
“This is no time to retire. It’s time to help our President,” said Rangel - though President Obama recently suggested Rangel should bow out.
Rangel, caught in an ethics scandal that threatens to end his 20-term career, told a Harlem crowd he’s fighting for his survival in Congress at a time when minority-group pols are being undermined. “A lot of people say, ‘Hey, there is a bus. Let’s throw him under it,’” he said.
Rangel said his predecessor, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., worked hard to get him into the inner rooms of Washington power.
“Now they are saying they don’t want you at the meeting,” Rangel said. “I don’t think you should feel comfortable if none of us is at the meeting,” Rangel said to cheers at an event held to promote the city’s new voting machines.
Last week, Rangel shot back after Obama suggested he retire rather than face a messy ethics trial. “Frankly, he has not been around long enough to determine what my dignity is,” Rangel said of Obama. “For the next two years, I will be more likely to protect his dignity.”

The Envious Feminists

Labels:
People are emotional beings, often governed more by feelings than reason. And this is never truer than with leftist people.

If you want to understand liberals, know that most of their ideology is simply a pseudo-intellectual justification for what feels right to them. As for these feelings, the one stereotypically associated with the left is compassion, which supposedly manifests itself in mercy, charity, forgiveness, and temperance. In reality, though, the feeling that far better characterizes the left is envy.

I'm not the first to observe this. Winston Churchill called socialism "the gospel of envy," and this Daily Mail piece cites research showing that leftists are in fact consumed by the fault. It is true, and it explains the real motivation behind their redistributionist tendencies: It's not that they care so much that the poor have less. They simply can't stand the fact that others have more -- than they do, that is. But there is something they do want to share with their fellow man, a thing they have in abundance: misery.

Misery does love company, and this brings me to feminism. While the ideology certainly has its justifications -- the various grievances, real and imagined (all groups have some grievances), and its spin-cycle theories -- these are not truly the wind beneath its wings. For that, you have to search the emotional realm, and if you do, what you will certainly find there is envy.

It's impossible to comprehend man's behavior without understanding the powerful force that is envy, as it influences so much of what people do. For example, I once had a friend who was a very accomplished tennis player. One day he told me that his non-tennis-playing friends would ridicule his sporting endeavor, saying that it was stupid or "You're wasting your time." I immediately told him what I absolutely knew to be true: His friends were simply jealous of him. When people deride a legitimate ambition or activity, the motivation is usually envy. It is the same reason why A-students in the black community are sometimes scorned for "acting white," an accusation used to justify a very dark motivation.

Of course, many of these green-eyed monsters would protest, claiming they have no desire to engage in the "stupidity" they mock. And the irony is that sometimes this is the truth. Sure, many lack the discipline to develop a skill and would take the one in question if it were simply a matter of snapping their fingers. Others simply don't want it badly enough to put in the necessary effort. Yet others recognize the thing in question as an accomplishment and, not having a corresponding one in their lives, are jealous because they're either bereft of triumphs or are one accomplishment short. Then there are some who may simply not want others to have any "good" that they don't have.

This brings us back to feminism. It's well-known that vanguard feminists look down on traditional motherhood and the sphere in which it's found, the family, and they have tried their utmost to undermine the two. For example, Simone de Beauvoir, author of The Second Sex, once said, "No woman should be authorized to stay at home and raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one." Robin Morgan, founder of the radical feminist group W.I.T.C.H., opined, "We can't destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage." Feminist Linda Gordon once disgorged, "The nuclear family must be destroyed . ... Whatever its ultimate meaning, the break-up of families now is an objectively revolutionary process." And Rebecca Walker, daughter of Alice Walker of The Color Purple fame, wrote about how her mother disowned her when she became "the sort of woman 64-year-old Alice despises -- a mother." The Color Purple? The elder Walker knows more about the color green.

This brings us to a truth about classical feminists: They hate traditional motherhood -- which, dare I say, is true motherhood -- because they are jealous of traditional mothers. When they ridicule a woman who tends to hearth and home, it's not so much because she is kowtowing to the patriarchy or not taking her place in the phalanx of the sisterhood. It is because the mother has a good that they, for some reason, cannot have. And women are notorious for being jealous of one another.

Some will point out that devout feminists don't see motherhood as a good, but this is irrelevant. A thing has certain inherent qualities, and they aren't a function of others' perception of them. Motherhood is a good by nature, and people will, as a group, desire what is good -- and be envious of others who have it when they cannot.

It's also a mistake to think that anti-motherhood feminists' attitude is merely the result of a lack of a maternal instinct. Most women thus disposed (be it nature or nurture), and I've known a few, are concerned only about avoiding motherhood, not ending it. They live and let live, and when they see a woman busily tending to a gaggle of children, they are likely only to chuckle and think, "Whew! Better her than me!" It's much like the difference between a communal monk and a communist: One aims to purge himself of worldly desires, the other to purge the world of the desirous. One has taken a vow of poverty, the other vows to destroy the wealthy.

Then some will ask why these feminists simply don't have families themselves. But, harking back to the example of my tennis-player friend, people are often their own worst enemies. Perhaps they are too selfish to devote themselves so completely to others, maybe life has dealt them a hand that made marriage unlikely, or perhaps hatred for the good overwhelms maternal instincts. Whatever the case, these are women who could never have the white-picket-fence lifestyle, so they decided to picket the lifestyle.

Evidence for this is that so many devout feminists are oddball, malcontent women. When young, Simone de Beauvoir was a bratty girl who threw temper fits to get her way (that she could get away with it is indicative of bad parenting). She had a father who wanted a boy, and it pleased her when he said that she thought like a man. Her father also told her she would never be married because she would have no dowry. And although she carried on a long polyamorous affair with Jean-Paul Sartre, she never did marry or have children. Feminist icon Gloria Steinem conceived a child as a young woman and then aborted him. She would later marry -- but not until she was 66 years old. Then you should read the article I linked to about Alice Walker, as a more horrible person cannot be imagined. And all three of these women had lesbian affairs, perhaps telling us why feminist Ti-Grace Atkinson said, "Feminism is the theory; lesbianism is the practice."

As for the theme of this piece, some will say that you cannot attribute all of anti-motherhood feminists' behavior to envy -- and I don't. While they are odd, they are people and as such are complex. And people can, and usually do, have multiple motivations when pursuing a cause, and it's folly to paint every member of a group with precisely the same brush. I also realize that feminism is used by some as a vehicle through which very dark aims can be realized. As feminist Catherine McKinnon has admitted herself, "Feminism, Socialism, and Communism are one in [sic] the same, and Socialist/Communist government is the goal of feminism." But is this a surprise? Envy helps drive communists as well. It drives both feminists and communists to hate the successful. And what, after all, is a good mother but the most successful woman imaginable?

Calling the so called Palestinian bluff?

Labels:
Prime Minister Netanyahu heads to Washington on Tuesday night, where he will have dinner on Wednesday night with President Obama, 'moderate' 'Palestinian' President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Jordanian King Abdullah and others. On Thursday, Netanyahu will attend the first negotiating session of the new round of direct talks, along with Secretary of State Clinton and Abu Mazen.
Credit has to be given where it is due. Except for the lapse of the 'settlement freeze,' which is due to expire in 26 days, Netanyahu has given nothing in these talks. He has refused to commit to extending the freeze, he has refused to accept the 1949 armistice lines as any kind of basis for negotiation, and he has refused to commit to expelling any more Jews from their homes. He has continued to repeat the mantra "negotiations without preconditions," until that mantra became reality. He has refused again and again to return to the disastrous terms agreed to by Ehud Olmert.
So why are we all so nervous here? There are three reasons. First, Netanyahu has also not told Israelis were he stands. Is he going to make real concessions to the 'Palestinians' or is he planning to call their bluff? On Wednesday, MK Danny Danon (Likud) submitted five questions about Netanyahu's red lines. They weren't answered (at least in public) and won't be. I'd like to believe Netanyahu's playing a chess game in which he's going to be patient and wait for Abu Mazen to make the wrong move. But is that really what's going to happen? Netanyahu is known for talking tough, but he is also known for caving in at the end and making sudden mistakes (why, why Wye?). Will that happen again?
Second, in Barack Obama, the US has a President who is far more committed to bringing peace the 'Palestinian' cause than any of his predecessors. The silver lining in that cloud is that until November 2 when the midterm elections take place, Obama will pay a high political price for pressuring Israel. That will likely let Israel get away with not fully renewing the freeze. But what then? After November 2 until January, Obama will have a lame duck Democratic Congress that may be willing to do whatever he wants. After January, Obama will likely face a Republican-controlled Congress that will severely restrict his ability to push any sort of domestic agenda. Will he turn to foreign policy - and specifically Israel - instead? Will he give up on a second term altogether and seek a legacy as a 'peacemaker' by going all out to pressure Israel? Will he pressure the 'Palestinians' at all? (Rumor has it that he has pressured them in private, but I doubt that it's any more than Clinton pressured Arafat, which was pretty much not at all).
Third, we sit in the middle of several potential explosions. Iran seeks nuclear weapons to destroy us. Hezbullah has thousands of rockets ready to rain down upon us and has de facto control over Lebanon. Hamas has suicide bombers and missiles ready for us as well (Israel Radio reported this morning that Hamas now has rockets with an 80-kilometer range - enough to hit the Sharon region). What will set any of them off? Will the failure of these talks lead to war?
Based on where we stand now, here's what I see happening:
1. The freeze will be extended in time (whether for a whole year or in smaller chunks remains to be seen). It will not apply to 'east' Jerusalem and the 'settlement blocs,' although there may be restrictions on the construction of private homes unofficially (in Jerusalem) and officially (in the 'settlement blocs'). Netanyahu may feel he has to do this to ensure that he is not blamed if Abu Mazen walks out. But this will be enough so that Abu Mazen will not walk out.
2. Obama will place enormous pressure on Netanyahu after November 2 if Abu Mazen doesn't walk out before then. Obama's promise to pressure Netanyahu will keep Abu Mazen at the table. Netanyahu's fallback is his coalition. The coalition and the Israeli public have to keep voicing opposition to what's going on in Washington because that will give Netanyahu the ability to tell Obama that his hands are tied because Israelis aren't willing to do what it will take to seemingly satisfy the 'Palestinians.' If Netanyahu is greeted by massive demonstrations every time he returns from Washington (which hopefully won't be Friday afternoon every time as it will be this week), he can point to those demonstrations and use them to resist pressure from Obama.
3. Netanyahu will eventually call Abu Mazen's bluff over the 'refugees,' an issue with respect to which Abu Mazen has no wiggle room. Netanyahu may even offer to let some small number of 'refugees' return. But it will be an absolute number and it will come with an end of conflict declaration and Abu Mazen will say no.
4. Netanyahu will stick to his guns on the 'settlement blocs' and on Jerusalem. He will continue to insist on controlling the Jordan Valley. I can't promise you he'll stick to his guns on other points, but in the end it won't matter. If everything isn't agreed, nothing is agreed. And Abu Mazen will not agree to an Israeli presence on the Jordanian border, nor will he agree to a demilitarized state.
5. The 'Palestinians' will not be the cause of another war here right now. That will be left to Iran, and will lead to Hezbullah, Hamas, Lebanon, Syria and the 'Palestinians' joining in. Hopefully that will happen before Iran becomes a nuclear power.
walk out now. There is no one to talk to.

Rich Democrats Are Getting Richer

Labels:
Seemingly forever we've heard Democrats play the class warfare card about the "rich getting richer" while simultaneously trying to gouge more tax money out of the evil rich. Well, as it turns out it's those same liberal Democrats who are getting richer, even during this down economy. Making matters worse, two of them never even earned the money in the first place: One married the money while the other inherited it, yet they're two of the biggest demagogues in Washington.
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) tops the list for the second year in a row. His minimum net worth was $188.6 million at the end of 2009, up by more than $20 million from 2008, according to his financial disclosure form.
While the economy struggled through a recession during much of 2009 and the nation’s unemployment rate soared to 10 percent, the stock market rebounded, helping lawmakers with large investments.
No wonder Kerry was able to afford a $7 million yacht that he was trying to avoid paying taxes on.
Meanwhile, the soon-to-be retired Patches Kennedy is also living large.
There were a few other new faces in the Top 50, including Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.), who received an inheritance after his late father, Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), died in 2009.
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Rep. Tom Petri (R-Wis.) also made the list.
Twenty-seven Democrats along with 23 Republicans make up the 50 richest in Congress; 30 House members and 20 senators are on the list.
The bulk of Kerry’s wealth is credited to his spouse, Teresa Heinz Kerry, who inherited hundreds of millions of dollars after her late husband, the ketchup heir Sen. John Heinz (R-Pa.), died in a plane crash in 1991.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), with a net worth of $160.1 million, is the second-richest member of Congress under The Hill’s formula, even though his wealth declined by more than $4 million in 2009.
He is followed by Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), who saw her net wealth leap to $152.3 million, a jump of more than $40 million from a year ago.
The rest of the top 10 are Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), McCaul, Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.), Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
But don't forget the GOP is the "party of the rich" according to the Democrats and their media enablers.
A slideshow of all the fatcats is here.
...how did we get here? how did we swallow all these lies?

Iran will hit Dimona if attacked

Labels:
Teheran will target Israel's Dimona reactor in a retaliatory attack if the Islamic regime is hit by an Israeli or US air strike, a Iranian official told the Arabic-language newspaper Asharq al-Awsat on Monday. "Teheran is aware that Israel and the United States want to target Iran, but we are also aware that while they actually have the option to launch war, they do not have the option to end it. This is America's and Israel's point of weakness. We know that there is no solution to this point of weakness, thanks to the importance of the Gulf region, America's problems in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the (geographically) small area of the Zionist entity," the anonymous official was quoted by the paper as saying. He also specified that the Dimona reactor would be on the top of Iran's target list in a potential war.
The official added that the Iranian regime did not see any strong reason to reach an accommodation with Israel because of the declining of view of Israel's strategic value among Western countries, including the US.

"We believe that the United States is looking for a strong partner in the region as an alternative to its dependence on Israel in the future. We in Iran believe that the United States and the Western nations now view Israel more as a burden and that Israel is incapable of contributing to achieving peace in the Middle East," he said to Asharq al-Awsat.
The official went on to say that the Islamic regime would seek to expand it's presence in Syria and Lebanon as Israel's influence in the region declines and Iran acquires nuclear capability.
The Iranian officials comments on Monday were just the latest round in the exchange of threats and counter-threats between Teheran officials and Israel and the US.

Last week, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told the Iranian people by radio that a regional war initiated by Teheran was a distinct possibility, adding that "Israel is committed to defending its citizens and if attacked will act accordingly."  The comments, released by the Foreign Ministry in Hebrew last Tuesday, came during a Farsi-language broadcast on Israel Radio in which Ayalon addressed the people of Iran, taking calls and answering questions . The Farsi broadcast originally aired last Monday.

"A fear exists that Iran – as it becomes more pressured by sanctions – will goad those under its patronage in Hizbullah and Hamas to initiate military action against Israel. There’s also a possibility that Iran will make a military move against the Arab Gulf states and harm the flow of oil to the world, in which case the entire situation will degrade into widespread confrontations. Remember that the sanctions are aimed against Iran’s efforts to arm itself with nuclear weapons, and if they don’t elicit results, the United States and other nations might consider other options."

I really don't understand how they benefit by bragging about this. They obviously feel the need to boast about how their schemes to sever the relationship betwen the West and Israel.

Some still think Obama has balls

Labels:
Odd hearing about a Serbian loving Obama. It was the Democrats who attacked Yugoslavia on behalf of a Muslim separatist group in the name of a non-existent genocide, while refusing to take any action against the very real and very horrifying Sudanese Muslim genocide of Africans. Balls? Chutzpah... sure. I call it hypocrisy. I guess the media has covered up that history. Too bad some bulls had to lose their testies to revisionism:
Ever since we noted the Serbian testicle festival a few weeks ago we know you've been waiting breathlessly for the big event. Well, everyone had a ball, it seems. As with most events, they couldn't keep politics out of it.
In a remote Serbian mountain village, they're cooking up delicacies to make your mouth water — or your stomach churn. At the seventh annual World Testicle Cooking Championship, visitors watch — and sometimes taste — as teams of chefs cook up bull, boar, camel, ostrich and even kangaroo testicles.
"This festival is all about fun, food and bravery," said Ljubomir Erovic, the Serbian chef and testicles gourmand specialist who organizes the bizarre cooking festival and has published a testicle cookery book.
The food — politely called "white kidneys" in Serbian — is believed to be rich in testosterone. In the Balkans, it is considered to help men's libido.
"The bulls' testicles are the best, goulash style," said last year's winner Zoltan Levai, stirring a metal pot heated by a wood fire and filled with vegetables and large testicles that he said were provided from a state-run slaughter house.
The festival — which includes dishes like testicle pizza and testicles in bechamel sauce flavored with a variety of herbs found in the region.
Visitors eat the dishes with plenty of wine or beer, and cool themselves in a small mountain river that flows beside the makeshift cooking stands blasting folk music. The stalls also sell roasted pig or lamb, "as a side dish".
As for Obama, it appears the organizers aren't quite up to date on American politics.
The festival also gives prizes to to those who have made the news for being "ballsy". This year one of the unsuspecting winners is U.S. President Barack Obama.
"He's the bravest man in the world," said Erovic. "Obama took over the world at the most difficult economic and political times," Erovic said. "He showed he has balls."
The owner of Obama's balls, Michelle Obama, was unavailable for comment.
Maybe Obama can attend next year rather than going to Martha's Vineyard. Then he can tell reporters "Hey, I'm just trying to buy some balls".
ouch!

Right Side News: BUSTED: Florida Mosque Caught on Video Raising Money for Hamas Fundraiser George Galloway

ORLANDO, FL, AUGUST 30, 2010: Investigative members of ACT Jacksonville & ACT Orlando led a video team into the Al Rahman Mosque in Orlando and taped at least $55,000 raised for former British Parliamentarian and admitted terrorist/HAMAS supporter - George Galloway.
Randy Mc Daniels, Director of ACT Jacksonville states that, "Galloway was fully supported in this federal crime by Imam Mahdi Bray, a national director with the Muslim American Society (MAS). Watch the video and you will be shocked!"

The Mosque, also known as the Islamic Society of Central Florida (ISCF), is led by Imam Mohammed Musri and owned by the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT). MAS and NAIT are co-conspirators in the largest terrorism funding case in US history (US vs. Holy Land Foundation).

Obama plan to nationalize fishing industry

Labels:

The president has already killed 23,000 jobs when he banned off shore drilling. Now he's got his sites set on private fishermen in New England. He and Jane Lubchenko (how apropos that her name sounds like a throwback to the old Soviet Union days), his new head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, want to replace the private fishermen who have fished for years off the coast of New England with licensed fishermen who work for the government:
Since her appointment to head the NOAA by President Obama, Lubchenco, who had been an officer of the Environmental Defense Fund and a leader of the Pew Oceans Commission, has pushed to convert the fisheries into commodities markets under a management system known as catch shares.
In a statement to the Times soon after her confirmation by the Senate, Lubchenco's office said her goal was to see a "significant fraction of the vessels ... removed."
With the stocks rebuilding strongly, fishermen wonder at the need to reduce the size of the work force.
Mayors Carolyn Kirk of Gloucester and Scott Lang of New Bedford have condemned federal fisheries policies for bringing unnecessary social and economic hardship as a certain price for the uncertain resource management benefits of catch share regulations.
Lubchenco has argued that consolidation, which has consistently followed catch shares, produces fewer but better jobs while giving the government a stronger hand in conservation.
something is fishy about losing jobs

Quranic Message to the Infidels: Convert to Islam, or pay the Jizya, or you gonna be killed!

Labels: » »
Saudi cleric Sheik Mohammed al-Areefi
Some more moderate Islam for the Dhimmis. Do you remember this guy? Saudi cleric Sheik Mohammed al-Areefi. Last time we saw him he announced on his television show that he will visit Jerusalem to bolster Muslim claims to the city, even though Mohammad never conquered Jerusalem during his lifetime. Why would he argue Jerusalem is a Muslim city?

The Qur'an:

Qur'an (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book (the Jews and the Christians), until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

From the Hadith:

Muslim (19:4294) - There are many places in the hadith where Muhammad tells his followers to demand the jizya of non-believers. Here he lays down the rule that it is to be extorted by force: "If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them"

PA TV to kids: Israeli cities Haifa, Jaffa, Lod, Ramle, Acre are all "occupied cities"

Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
Official Palestinian Authority TV continues to teach children that all of Israel is "occupied Palestine." A repeating message on the children's show The Best Home, currently broadcast three times a week during the month of Ramadan, is that all Israeli cities are "occupied" Palestinian cities. The PA TV host refers to cities in Israel alternately as "1948 occupied cities," "occupied cities" or "occupied territories." The Israeli cities described as Palestinian cities include Haifa, Jaffa, Lod, Ramle and Acre.
The following are examples from three of the TV programs in which the PA TV host refers to Israeli cities as "occupied Palestinian cities."

PA TV host to girl: "You live in Jerusalem. Do you visit the 1948 occupied cities (Israeli cities)?"
Girl: "I've been to Hebron."
TV host: "No, Hebron is a city [in the Palestinian Authority] that we all can enter. The occupied cities - such as Lod, Ramle, Haifa, Jaffa, Acre (all Israeli cities) - have you visited them?"
Girl: "I've been to Haifa and Jaffa."
TV host: "Tell us, are they beautiful?"
Girl: "Yes..."
TV host: "We hope all children of Palestine will be able to go to the occupied territories, which we don't know and have never been able to see. Personally, I have never been there."
[PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 25, 2010]
PA TV host to children in studio:
"No doubt you've all been waiting to know lots of things about Ramadan in those days, in some of the occupied areas, in the occupied territories. Today we'll find out lots about Jaffa in those days of Ramadan."

PA TV host to children in studio:
"Don't you want to see Ramadan from those days in an occupied Palestinian city, to which we hope to return?"
The children are told a story of Ramadan in Ramle.

Obama Billboards in Israel sell Palestine on the U.S. taxpayer dime

Obama is selling billboards on the U.S. tax payer's dime to convince Israel that the Palestinians want peace, but the Palestinian official media says otherwise.  If the Tea Party only knew!
Washington is funding an ad campaign in Israel featuring billboards of Palestinian officials asking: "We are partners -- what about you?"
The campaign launched Sunday includes the faces of senior Palestinian Authority officials Saeb Erekat, Jibril Rajoub and Yasser Abed Rabo, and Riad Malki, Palestinian foreign affairs minister, Yedioth Aharonoth said.
The aim of the campaign is to persuade Israelis that peace partners on the Palestinian side truly exist, and calls for support of a two-state solution, the Tel Aviv newspaper said.
The U.S. government was approached to fund the campaign by the Geneva Initiative founders, who drew up an agreement in 2003 to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the newspaper said.
The U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, invested close to $250,000 toward the creation of the billboards, the newspaper said.
The campaign has raised a few eyebrows in Israel.
"We are talking about a Palestinian Authority campaign funded by the American government," an Israeli Foreign Ministry official was quoted saying.
As it turns out, there is also a second campaign for 'peace' being paid for by American tax dollars.
Abbas’s speech came as the PA prepared to open a USfunded campaign to persuade the Palestinians to support the peace talks with Israel. Advertisements calling on the Palestinians to support the negotiations will be broadcast on PA-controlled TV and radio stations. Posters with the same message will appear on large billboards in most Palestinian cities.
In addition to Abbas and PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, several Palestinian officials have been recruited to the new campaign. Among them are Saeb Erekat, Yasser Abed Rabbo and Jibril Rajoub. Their main task is to explain to the Palestinians the importance of making peace with Israel, sources involved in the $250,000 campaign said.

Yaacov Lozowick Ruminations: Response to Lauren Booth

Labels:

Lauren Booth is an anti-Zionist journalist based in London; people who follow such matters seem to think she's even worse than the rest of the pack. I mentioned her a while back, here.
This week she published a chirpy letter to the Israelis, in which, so she claims, she set aside her house chores in order to write us a personal letter. Oddly, she posted it on the website of an ex-Israeli who dislikes us intensely, the last place you'd expect if someone wishes to catch our attention and engage us in conversation; even curiouser, the website doesn't offer the possibility of leaving visible comments. So I'm sending them notice that I've responded, and perhaps they'll forward it to her; I encourage the rest of you to think where else Ms. Booth can be found and to leave her a message. She's made such an effort to reach out, it wouldn't be polite not to reciprocate.
Dear Ms. Booth,
I was touched by your concern for us as described in your "Mom to mom" letter of August 22 2010, in which you tried to inform us about all the bad things happening in our name. I'm a dad, not a mom, but I'll give a stab at reassuring you.
First thing, right up front: nothing's being done "in our name". Whatever it is, it's we who are doing it ourselves. I personally spent three years in the IDF as a young man, and another three over the following twenty-some as a reservist. About the time I was given a pen and retired from service, my first son was serving in the second Intifada, and last year my youngest fought in Gaza with his tank brigade. Ever since high-school I have been well informed about events, as is expected of a voter in a democracy. There's nothing particularly unusual about me, I'm a mainstream fellow with a standard story. For better or worse, what "Israel" does is done by the flesh and blood Israelis, not "in their names". Is this different in your country?
There is no need to carefully broach the matter of looting by IDF troops and nasty graffiti. We've been at war for a very long time, and bad things happen in war; we don't pretend otherwise. Innocent Palestinians have repeatedly died at our hands, which is far worse than looted credit cards, serious though that may be. So we can agree that innocent Palestinians have suffered at Israeli hands. They have. Some still do. Others will, as far into the future as the Palestinian nation refuses to accept the right of the Jewish nation to a homeland in part of the tiny little country they both call home.
The crux of our very substantial disagreement is when you write about your friends in the Free Gaza Movement:

They are to a man (and to a woman) kind, concerned citizens of the world. People, who simply cannot go about their normal daily lives whilst your state, your army, your settlers torment other human beings. Every minute of every day. Of every month. Of every year.
For sixty two years.
Where to begin?
First, you've got your chronology wrong. The first time Palestinian leaders incited a mob to murder Jews for the crime of Zionism was in 1920, then again in 1921. There have been ups and downs ever since, but the Jewish-Palestinian war has been raging for 90 years, not 62.
Second, since it's war we're discussing, I really think we should focus on the worst aspect, loss of life. The true numbers are fiendishly hard to estimate and frankly impossible to know with much accuracy, but the total number of Palestinians killed in their war with Israel is below 35,000, and that includes soldiers, children, suicide murderers and innocent women. In almost a century. Care to look at some other numbers about the 65 years since the end of WW2? Here are some of the big ones:
Late 1940s. Partition of India and Pakistan: At least 500,000 dead. Chinese civil war: Perhaps 2.5 million dead.
1950s. Korean war: Millions of dead. Chinese domination of Tibet: 600,000 dead Tibetans. After the 1950s the numbers continued to grow.
1960s. The various wars in Vietnam lasted decades, but let's list them here. Millions of people died in them. Also in the same decade, remember the time when Nigeria abolished Biafra, and for a while starving Biafran children were the top international metaphor of suffering? Something like a million people died in that conflict.
1970s. More than a million people died when the West Pakistanis massacred East Pakistanis. Millions were murdered in Cambodia. This was the decade when the wars in Ethiopia began; hundreds of thousands of people were killed, and there was a famine which was exacerbated by war in which about a million people died.
1980s. There was the Soviet war in Afghanistan in which more than a million people died. The Iranians and Iraqis fought a war in which about a million people died. The war in South Sudan (distinct from Darfur) began in the early 1980s and eventually killed about two million people.
The Lebanese civil war (1975-1990) is too minor to be mentioned in this list, but more than 100,000 people died in the parts of it that had nothing to do with Israel.
1990s. About 800,000 murdered in Rwanda. Hundreds of thousands killed in Europe, in the Balkans.
2000s. Darfur, hundreds of thousands murdered. The killings in the Congo go on, in the bloodiest conflict since WW2. More than 5,000,000 dead so far.
You're British, Ms. Booth, so you must be aware of the British participation in some of these conflicts. Still, allow me to point out the single worst Post-WW2 chapter, the Mau Mau war in Kenya, in the 1950s. Your soldiers killed more Kenyans, in those eight years, many of them civilians, than Israel has killed Palestinians in a century - and in defense of what, exactly? Need I mention the war against the Islamists, raging as we talk, in which the numbers of dead civilians at the hands of Coalition forces are larger than the numbers of dead Palestinians, probably significantly larger but no-one gives all the numbers?
Don't these numbers rather indicate that Israel is not anywhere near the list of large killers? In spite of its being continually at war for a century? And since it isn't, might this actually indicate that it restrains its use of power and makes an effort not to kill people at random? If you can read these numbers differently, I'm listening, but I warn that I've given the matter much serious thought all my life, and am comfortable saying that we do try to wage our wars morally. Actually, you might be interested in a description I once wrote of how this is done in practice. Ask yourself, while you do those house chores, if you can even imagine the moral challenge we face, and if you'd face it better.
In your letter you name 26 members of the Al Samouni family who were killed when our artillery mistakenly shelled their home. Indeed, the death of each innocent is tragic, but I'm wondering if you can name any of the Afghani children killed by your forces this year? Last year? The year before? Any Kenyans? Anyway, it is precisely because we do know the names of most of the dead, that the Israeli authorities are so sure that most of the casualties in Gaza last year were anything but innocent bystanders. The painstaking listing of names and checking of identities has demonstrated that most of the people we killed (not all) were people we intended to kill, because they were at war with us. No apologies.
One more point, and then a question. Had you stated that you object, say, to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, we could have discussed the merits of your case. You didn't. Instead, you explicitly said your problem is with Israel's existence (that's the 62-year code). In other words, your mom-to-mom letter is a demand that we Jews renounce our national claim even while the Brits, the Azeris and the Nicaraguans have theirs. This is puzzling, and raises the obvious question. If you're angrier at us for our limited wars than with anyone else for their mass slaughters, while demanding of us that we, alone among hundreds of nations forgo national expression, and this even as you agitate for Palestinian nationalism, and yet you insist you're not an antisemite: then what, pray tell, are you?
Dr. Yaacov Lozowick,
Jerusalem
PS. Since you wrote about names of innocent victims, you might be interested in these two links. The first is where we list all of our dead, this past century. The second is a list I spent about ten years working on, trying to collect names of our dead in another case. When I left the project we were still only about halfway through.
I lost my appetite
the liberal cultural elite has placed the blame for over a thousand years of Muslim persecution of Jews on "Zionist Extremism". While a Koran in the toilet becomes a front page story, the ongoing persecution of Hindus, Zoroastrians and Christians in Muslim countries is only a footnote in the State Department's human rights report.

This ugly bias is the product of a political alliance between Liberals and Islamists. And the cost of that alliance may be the world as we know it. That alliance is the reason why the US and Europe attacked Yugoslavia on behalf of a Muslim separatist group in the name of a non-existent genocide, while refusing to take any action against the very real and very horrifying Sudanese Muslim genocide of Africans. It is why Israel is constantly barraged with hateful propaganda from the same left, which defended Saddam's sovereignty in Iraq. The very same media propagandists who champion the flotilla on behalf of Hamas rule in Gaza, have next to no interest in Saddam's rape rooms, his ethnic cleansing of the Marsh Arabs, or his use of chemical weapons against the Kurds. While the American media becomes wildly exercised over a Disney employee's right to wear a Hijab or some other trivial bit of Islamic lawfare-- hardly any newspaper outside of Der Spiegel has covered allegations that Turkey may be using chemical weapons against the Kurds.

Jew’s Ear Juice for Sale in Shanghai

jews-ear-juiceThe Consulate General of Israel in Shanghai recently was surprised to discover on the shelves of a local supermarket chain a canned beverage called “The Jew’s Ear Juice.”
The drink is made of a black mushroom which does resemble a wrinkled ear.
Israel’s Consul-General in Shanghai Jackie Eldan stressed that this was not a case of anti-Semitism, as Judaism is considered in China a synonym of success.
According to Eldan, the juice’s manufacturer must have thought that linking it to the Jewish ear would be profitable.

Rome: Models convert during Gaddafi lecture on Islam

(photo)

Via Al-Arabia:

Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi gave a lesson on Islam and copies of the Quran to a few hundred young Italian women Sunday as he arrived in Rome for his fourth visit in a year.

It was the second time the Libyan leader - who travels with female bodyguards and fancies himself a self-styled feminist - had staged such an event for Italian women, who were recruited by a modeling agency and paid an undisclosed sum to attend.

Michela, who asked that her last name not be used, told Associated Press Television News that three of the participants converted to Islam on the spot.

"It was a really beautiful meeting and went very well," she said. "He is very easygoing and he gave us a copy of the Quran. Three girls converted themselves to Islam during the ceremony. It was a beautiful event."

Other participants, though, identifying themselves as Roman Catholics in this overwhelmingly Catholic country, said Gaddafi had urged others to convert and had dismissed Christianity as unimportant.

Some Italian fashion models now have an ideology that is not tax exempt. Oh noes.... worse then Kate Moss on Cocaine.

4 billion barrels of oil offshore?

Labels: » » »

Who says Moses took us to the only country in the Middle East that doesn't have oil? It turns out that joke was wrong.
More optimistic reports continue to flow from the giant Leviathan energy field off the Haifa coast. Following previous higher estimates of gas and “signs of oil,” the latest report points to a potential of 4 billion barrels of “black gold.”
The ramifications of the discovery are immense. If the estimates materialize, Israel will become self-sufficient in energy, enjoy a boon of employment for engineers and laborers, and will become an exporter of gas and oil. The shekel, barring a conflict with Hizbullah or Iran, may become rock-solid, dropping the representative rate; Israel's shekel is now worth about 26.3 cents (3.8 shekels) to the dollar.
The announcement of the new estimates states that there is a 17 percent chance of finding reserves equal to 3 billion barrels of oil at a depth of slightly more than a mile undersea. The oil field is slightly beneath the mammoth gas reserves that already have been estimated to contain 13 trillion cubic feet of gas.
There also is an 8 percent chance that another 1.2 billion barrels exist at an even lower level. Earlier this month, oil reserves at Rosh HaAyin, east of Tel Aviv and bordering Samaria, were estimated to have a possible potential of 1.5 billion barrels of oil but that commercial quantities will be much lower, if at all. Israel's estimated oil consumption is slightly less than 100 million barrels a year.
So does this mean gasoline for our cars will cost less than $6 per gallon?

France to sell missiles to Lebanese

Labels: » » » » » »

Sources: Israel, US trying to prevent arms sale to Lebanese Army.
Israel and the US are attempting to prevent a French-Lebanese arms deal that could lead to increased Israeli casualties in any future confrontation, Channel 10 cited from a Friday report by Arabic daily Asharq al-Awsat. According to the report, French Defense Minister Herve Moran sent a letter to his Lebanese counterpart Elias Murr offering to sell Lebanon 100 HOT anti-tank missiles to be armed on the Gazelle helicopters already in use by Lebanese Armed Forces.
Sarkozy says Obama's position on Islam is crazy, but he still has to make a buck obviously.

IDF Lt.-Col. (res.) Dov Harari, 45, was killed and Capt. (res.) Ezra Lakia was seriously wounded, as well three LAF soldiers and one Lebanese journalist killed, when both sides exchanged fire after IDF soldiers attempted to cut down a tree on the Israeli side of the border.
The IDF had informed the UNIFIL peacekeeping force along the border ahead of time of the intended tree-clearing operation.

UNIFIL later confirmed that the IDF troops were on the Israeli side of the border
when the incident occurred, contradicting LAF claims that Lebanese
sniper fire directed at the Israeli troops had been justified by an
incursion upon Lebanese territory.
